Need an official. So much more you can do for a recruit on an official vs unofficial.

That might be true, but since we're a "dark horse" candidate at best it's still not surprising.

Do prospective student-athletes frequently use an 'official' on local schools? I'd always assumed they saved them for the longer trips.

Yes, if they're serious about the local school. Pretty uncommon for a recruit, football or basketball, not to take an official to where they are choosing even if it is a local school. There are exceptions but it is rare. I would assume they try their best to get an official where he can spend a day with the players/coaches, get out to eat, show him a good party or two, get his parents to see the campus and academics. Like it or not, a 17 year old is easily swayed by the school that showed him the best time. Understandably so.

I have not heard whether or not LB and Staff are scheduling an in-home visit? No evidence. I am not a recruiting expert, just makes sense to me. Big Time "Local" Recruit = In-Home Visit.

The part that does not make sense is that there is no news on SMU recruiting Myles Turner. There is news of LB flying to California for Barefield. News of LB flying to Missouri for another recruit. News of LB flying to Philadelphia or the east coast for another recruit. Glad that recruiting is getting attention. I just want SMU to get local media attention for recruiting Myles Turner. Just makes sense that we would want the media masses, especially the Dallas media and Dallas community, to know that we are actively recruiting Myles Turner with an in-home visit. To my knowledge all we have done so far regarding Myles Turner is that he had an unofficial visit (maybe we have done more?).

with a highly recruited kid just down the street I don't think it would so unusual that he might take his 6 visits to schools far away rather than waste one on local school as long as he had ample opportunity to become familiar with the local school and coaching staff. But although I'm sure SMU has done everything possible to develop a relationship with Turner, he has been only on campus once-right- so probably not a great sign in SMU favor. But say with a kid like Elijah Thomas whose been to many games-not so big a deal. Plenty of kids commit before taking ANY official visits-Turner is kind of an exception these days. The huge quantity of top recruits in DFW makes it a big advantage for SMU with the right coaching staff

Mudiay took an official to SMU months after he COMMITTED.

Anyway, why am I posting on here talking about Turner? Kind of over the whole thing.

This is true and also fairly common. The bottom-line, he made the official. A commitment is as good as the paper I wipe my a** with, until that letter is signed, means nothing.

Right-probably a hundred football players have committed for the Class of 2015 and not one has taken an official visit

You would be correct in the bolded statement. Definitely weird and troublesome. Some of it has to do with him not seriously looking at SMU for a long time though I'm sure. Regardless, the more times you can get him on campus, unofficial, official or just to hit on the women in between walking to their classes, is always a good thing. I'm somewhat shocked. On the flip side, I think that also is an extremely positive sign for a guy like Thomas however.

I know a very notable college basketball insider/writer and he has told me in the past few weeks it is down to Kansas and Texas and that's it. Especially with it looking like Embiid leaving and Myles love for Texas (Durant is his favorite player and grew up watching Texas). I think theres next to no chance he comes here, which really is no big deal to me anyway. Mudiay will be a great addition and we return so many key pieces that we will still be a great team. I mean, 2 years ago we could of never imagined a player like Myles even considering us, so lets not get to greedy ;-) #PONYUP

Does anyone know who LB has had "in-home" visits with this season? And who he is planning on having "in-home" visits with any recruits? Any visits scheduled? Just wish the topic of "in-home" visits was more public. SMU could get some really good press and national notoriety. Especially when recruiting a top recruit like Myles Turner. It is not every day that you are in the running for a top national recruit. Does anyone know how many total in-home visits LB and the coaching staff can make every season?

Subscribe to a recruiting website who covers SMU specifically. I don't follow what he does on a day-to-day basis. At this point, recruiting for 2014 is basically over. 2015 is the one to focus on and in-homes for 2015 won't be made for quite a while.

I just hope the WDNWHA committee is getting its statement/talking points together. I would love to help but all my requests for joining have been met with silence. Harder to get in than the Skull and Crossbones and Free Masons combined.

We are a clandestine group dedicated to assuring SMU never loses a recruit we want. The Turner kid is on every agenda. We will be meeting daily from April 1 until the end of the signing period and will report as each decision is made.

agree with this and can't blame a kid for using his official visits to go see other parts of the country...besides, I think Eman is still our lead recruiter for the big man...something about competing for a national championship NEXT YEAR?

I'm hearing more and more that it's Texas. I've heard his dad has a big lean towards UT. KU is trying to get in on Trevor Thompson (VTech) and Anthony Lee. Pivots towards those two guys would indicate KU is out on Turner. Let's hope SMU can overtake Texas.
