Wow....interesting thread that took a strange turn. Really? Students are jealous of some other zany costumed fans?

mustangxc wrote:The costumes are not about promoting the team, so I see the point being made by these other students. If anything those costumes are soooooo SMU because it is the typical frat mentality. I am not laughing with them, I am laughing at them, which is ok too. If someone really wants to wear a costume, and help promote the team and the brand we are creating they should come decked out Godfather style looking like Joe Corleone or at least like the characters in [deleted] Tracy. That would promote the mob, and they could be called disciples or clones.

I guess you should have said Richard Tracy.

I'm one of the old Mustangs on the board, so as far as "costumes" go, I just miss the traditional basketball-heads

Lobstersux, you don't speak for the student body. Your jealousy is coming on so thick it's fogging up my computer screen.

If you think it's about the costumes then you are missing the bigger picture. It's about the fact that they are out there, they are visible, and they are going absolutely nuts for their team. They get attention because it's eye-catching and it's funny, but it's also exciting to see people so dedicated to their school. Nobody thinks they're better than anyone else, and the fact that you're so concerned with everyone's opinion about everyone else speaks volumes. Who cares about what they're wearing? Who cares about whether someone had the time or the money to travel to all of the away games? That's not the point at all.

Don't try to tell me that 15 to 20 guys who are affiliated with a particular house (miss ya'll) are controlling the entire Mob and defining the Mob experience. How many seats are there each game in the Mob section? (Hint: more than 20). If you don't like it, then recruit 20 more of your brothers to get out there and get riled up. It is so the typical SMU way to say that because you don't like something or the way something is happening, you aren't going to participate or you're going to sit in a different section. But this isn't the typical SMU team anymore. Don't be apathetic! And for goodness sake, don't trash a fellow student's excitement and spirit. If you don't like something, if you want to change it, then get in there. That's what they're doing and that's what makes them great fans, not the costumes.
