Re: Kyle Kearns CommittedGood. We'll see how it goes. We had another 4 star QB commit (with better offers) this time last year who fled to UCF.
Re: Kyle Kearns CommittedHe visited Colorado last week and didn't get an offer from them. He had nowhere else to go...
FWIW I thinks he's better than, and a better fit, than Severt, Colbert or Cassel. That makes him the best of our had no other offers quarterbacks. BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.
Re: Kyle Kearns CommittedHey guys sorry we didn't get Josh Rosen.
Fact is, a lot of teams are moving to spread offenses which doesn't really fit Kearn's skill set. He's a great fit for our offense though with his accuracy and intelligence and I think we got a pretty special talent here. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Kyle Kearns Committed
He may be a "great" fit for our offense but his skill set will limit the ways we can attack a defense which will ultimately put us at a disadvantage especially against legit competition (we've seen this before). To counteract that his accuracy/intelligence will need to be elite. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Kyle Kearns CommittedI saw 4 stars and thought I was in the basketball board. Welcome to SMU. Let's hope the coaches realize that it's not a done deal until he signs.

Re: Kyle Kearns CommittedCould you clarify that because I saw GG running on several designed plays. Now, the QB isn't going to be asked to run a lot in this system. But he also isn't going to be a statue in the pocket either.
Apparently, you're taking the position that only dual-threat quarterbacks are acceptable in today's college football? And pocket passers are dinosaurs? What I really think we're seeing is the evolution of college offenses that can adapt to both types of quarterbacks.
Re: Kyle Kearns Committed
Gilbert was allowed to run more than his predecessors because he was a dual-threat QB. I'm taking the position that the more limited a QBs skill set the easier he is to defend. This is magnified in our offense because of how much we pass and the types of throws our QB needs to make with regularity. Some college offenses are evolving to maximize the talents of both types of QBs but our offense really isn't one of them yet. Re: Kyle Kearns CommittedIf Davis gets the job, it's safe to assume there will be more running.

Re: Kyle Kearns Committed
It's safe to assume that Davis will have to prove his worth as a R&S passer to win the job especially when the incumbent has a big leg up on him in experience. We might run the occasional keeper/zone read play but it won't be often because June doesn't like to expose his QB like that. Re: Kyle Kearns CommittedAgree with you 100% about earning the job, and while Burcham does have two years studying the system, he only has 2+ games playing in the system, so he has an experience edge, but not a huge in-game experience edge. As for June's willingness to call designed runs, that will be interesting to watch. He let Gilbert run more than most people thought he would, and Davis supposedly is a lot faster.

Re: Kyle Kearns CommittedI enjoy reading what my Mustang friends think regarding SMU sports. However, one thing really bothers me. Once an athlete commits to SMU I think everyone should support him. If you have something negative to say I wish you would get it all out of your system before he becomes one of us. Once a player gets on the field as a Mustang then say what you think. But, I want to see all of these guys become winners and I would hope for positives falling all over them. Welcome Kyle, I hope you become an ALL AMERICAN.
Re: Kyle Kearns CommittedI think you are likely to see Davis start and run quite a bit. That is based on no actual facts, but justo a hunch that jones sees it as the best way for him to keep his job.

Re: Kyle Kearns 4 Star QB Commits to SMUShould be in the Elite 11...
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1846755-predicting-next-years-elite-11/page/4 He is no. 7 QB on ESPN, and they do the show. Would be nice to get a preview of him. On the other hand, Burcham looked like he had a lot of potential on the show. He even shared MVP honors with a crab-leg stealing Heisman winner...
Re: Kyle Kearns 4 Star QB Commits to SMUIf he is indeed a legit 4 star, he's the best QB JJ has recruited at SMU. Maybe this could be his Colt Brennan?
