Just to set the record straight that was actually former Beatle John Lennon after the Fab Four had disbanded and he had embarked on his solo career.

That guy would be an EXCELLENT coach, but I wonder if he would inspire recruits. Is he still at Bama?

Gary Gibbs is currently the LB coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

Imagine-as the Beatles used to say if there are other guys like DeMyron Martin sitting on the bench who Bennett just didn't get around to getting in the ballgame. Seriously, we have some talented young athletes like Henderson, Lowery, Turner, Givens, Vincent Chase and even Massey (not to mention Phillips) who could have some substantial upside. After seeing Martin against TCU and even in his limited carries against Tulane can YOU believe this guy could possiby riding the bench on a team with a running attack like SMU.Let's find out. Seriously, the most concern I have for Bennett's coaching is his inability or stubborness not to develop young players in a REBUILDING program. Eric Dickerson was a 3rd string TB as a freshman getting beat out by two freshman-that never stopped Ron Meyer from using him early in his career. What REALLY pisses me off is when Bennett lauds a young player like Givens or Lowery, burns a redshirt and then plays them 3-4 plays a game after they make the mistake everybody KNOWS they will make as freshman. We ain't going anywhere this year and we must get these kids on the field.

Precisely. First two or three games, Columbus is in there for a few plays, then gone the rest of the game. what for? Why burn the redshirt? If he's not better, or you're not going to develop him, then wait until next year on him

after OU he was also defensive coordinator at both Georgia and LSU. He's about 53-which I think is a positive but if he wants to ever be a Head Coach again he probably needs to make a move. I just don't think he ever got a fair shot at OU. He was fighting the Switzer scholarship limits while successfully cleaning up the image of the program. He still won at OU-he was a much better coach than Blake but he suffered the inevitable decline resulting from probation.

Gibbs is a technician, he did what he was supposed to do at OU and that was clean up the program, but developed a mediocre team.

He has a flat personality which concerns me about recruiting. We have enough trouble getting good recruits in.

When I look at a head coach, I judge him on different things.

A head coach is responsible for bringing good players in, making proper game day decisions, and making sure the coordinators do their jobs.

Bennett has improved as a coach in game day decisions. He made some goofy calls in the Baylor game, but the TCU game was excellent coaching, and you have to give him credit for the gutsy fake punt at A&M.

Personell wise, I think everyone would agree that the personell has improved since Bennett got here.

As for other things: I have some issues with the offensive play calling and personell, but that is an OC issue. It is concerning that PB has to call for a starting QB, or a starting RB (Martin), or using certain players. The OC should be able to handle that stuff. At this point, our OC should be criticized. I think obviously Henderson has some fumbling issues that have probably restricted his use in the offense, but still...

Defensively, we lack aggression. We tackle poorly, that is the job of the defensive coaches. The aggressiveness, however, is probably coming from PB a bit - as in don't blitz, I want to stay in the game, don't give up the big play. So PB could probably take the blame on at least some of the lack of aggressiveness.

Special teams, I have no idea who is in charge, but whomever it is gets an F so far. Maybe an F+ because the return game is clicking decently.

In short, I think PB bears some responsibility to get the team ready to play. But I think some of the other issues we are seeing are more a fault of the coordinators than PB.

At OU, Gibbs was on serious probation. Had they let him alone and quit complaining, he probably would have turned it further around, rather than Schnellenberger / Blake run it into the ground.

But OU couldn't stand to lose to NEBRASKA (who might we all add was EXTREMELY good during that time, perhaps the best teams in the past 30 years. There are no more DOMINANT teams like they were with Frazier).

yeah to clarify Gibbs became head coach at OU as the severe scholarship limitations began to take effect. It was inevitable really that he would fail at OU under the circumstances.
