I don't think we fire him until we have a coach already lined up. It's better to point to the ineptness happening on the field and show clearly how it's June's lack of effort that's the cause of this than to battle the SMU-smear campaign that Leigh and June are going to inevitably launch during our coaching search. And yes, the search should have already begun the minute that out-clause extension was inked.

We need to fire him now before he starts burning anymore redshirts.

It really will not matter. The next coach will come in and completely turn over the team. If he can't land talent better than 95% of what we have today, we're in for a long five years.

tiki needs to be removed as hc NOW! We can move up one of the coaches to finish the season. I agree, we should put tiki in an admin postion that would prevent him from doing anything fball related until the end of the season.

This. Sadly the majority of this team just aren't D-1 caliber football players and they don't even seem to play with any heart. That 1989 squad would give this team a serious case of butthurt.

Imagine if they could see, after a year of humiliation trying to revive the program, facing hopeless odds, to see today's program dropping a grulie on their legacy with this disgrace to football.

We are in or close to the worst case scenario that some have projected for a long time. No question there. I am in agreement.

But the dollars and sense (sic) of this thing bother me. Part of my own worst case thinking is that the C of C may have promised money for JJ's 2014 salary and a buy out at the end, given in installments, and not in a lump. That is, the money ain't in the kitty right now. That's always provided that the details about a minimal buyout after this season that some insiders have hinted about are factual.

It is also obvious that this administration certainly does not view sports and especially football in the same was as those running the University of Southern California for example. When all is said and done SMU has been de-emphasizing football since the 1950's. SMU has permitted some interested and capable alumni to keep things going under varying degrees of university control Since the restart of football at SMU it has been handled in a way that mostly kept us out of trouble. Its okay when the money comes in that way, same as if there were a donation for a new building, or an endowed chair, or valuable donation to the library. It does not mean Turner and others agree with those who think that good interscholastic sports are needed.

That's not to mention what seems a real possibility of donor fatigue on the part of the C of C so far as the next coach is concerned or doubts about raising a younger band of wealthy donors if only the present group would butt out.

I'm saying it may be that an end to this tomorrow might be something the university would have to undertake and I suppose the administration and the trustees would have to approve that action, even if the big donors eventually covered the expenditure as promised. Those approvals might not happen.

More than that, I don't believe that any quick appeal to other donors and general fans will raise anything like the money needed to fund coaches and so on at the same level next time. I used to see IPTAY sticlers on cars in the colors of a big college. At one time the "T" was for ten dollars a year and it got larger. That was a worthwhile resource for a Clemson, but we don't have the numbers and many of the interested people seem already to be buying season tickets for one or two sports.

Further, I don't think the local business community will ever again give as much support to SMU sports as before the end of football I on the Hilltop. That is only one of the ways that what happened before has a continuing effect on SMU football. In that respect I imagine that Baylor and TCU are in a better situation than SMU.

My conclusion? I think we are headed towards a time when SMU will remain DIV I in football for a while, but on a smaller scale.

What was Phil Bennett's last salary? Where did that money come from? Fact is we are no longer a rival of TCU in football. Long term parity with UNT is doubtful.

But a move needs to be made and now. Show JJ the door. Perhaps Mason is the man to finish the season. If there is some capable OL coach on the beach maybe bring him in, although it would take a really unusual personality to mesh with the lame duck coaches and players at this point.

I hope I'm wrong about several opinions expressed although lots of it has been said before on this board. Most of all I wish Coach Jones would resign. I said at the start it's my worst case and especially about the money that some seem to think is there no matter what.

If they were lead by coaches that could get them fired up and properly prepared, most of these kids could actually play at a D-1 level. They don't have direction and play at a dial tone level with no emotion and college football is supposed to be emotional. The difference in the energy on the sidelines between the two teams was so apparent yesterday. UNT had it, SMU not so much. June needs to be sent packing now, before our home opener and give the interim staff time to prepare for this next game. Its actually a perfect time to change with 2 weeks to prepare.

JJ Gone This Week

Postby FriscoChuck » Sun Sep 07, 2014 9:44 am

Just the play calling past two weeks seems very weird. No running plays at all, poor decision returning kickoffs as almost every kick should just be a touchback, too many too long to develop screen passes, etc.

Our defense isn't great but our offense and poor special teams hardly gives them a chance. Offense has been out worst defense.

USC had a lot more to lose firing Kiffin mid-season than we do of firing June now, but they did it anyway. Pull the trigger, and get rid of him.

Easier fire kiffin is a complete [deleted]! June is not.

I always stood behind him but after yesterday I was humbled and stunned.

The thing that has kept bothering me for 3 or 4 years is where is the signature QB?

How can a guy like jones not have one that he recruited.

We need to move quickly so the new coach can evaluate current players and recruit the JCs and introduce himself to area high school coaches to get new players. We need the process to begin now. There is a lot to turn around.

Yes, he is. He's an arrogant guy that is destroying the program rather than simply stepping away. He's here for the money, and nothing else.

How does that make him any less a piece of [deleted] than Kiffin?

I have been much maligned for supporting JJ and I still totally disagree with any notion that JJ is raising a middle finger to SMU and just collecting a paycheck. JJ needs to step away because he has proved unable to sustain the program. His approach does not work and this year there are no Garrett Gilberts to mask the problem. All coaches are arrogant and you need them to be and personally I like June. But he can't do the job I need him to do for my school. He needs to be gone tomorrow
