Hey I clearly said the other day that Chase had earned his job and should be starting-I didn't even think they played the same receiver spot. I thought Lowery was inside-he was last year wasn't he? This is mind boggling to bench your only productive receiver.
Makes you wonder why they replace Chase and not Foster. Personally, I like both guys. Foster has a lot of guts and good speed, but it seems like he jumps for catches when he doesn't need to.
I don't think Chase will be out for very long, though. Romo either.
Foster was replaced last week by Zack Sledge, wasn't he? L830 is right - Chase won't sit for long, and I expect both QBs will play.
I am going to play a little devil's advocate. Perhaps Bennett, a well know control manager, has a policy of not talking to the press without clearance from him and this is a form a discipline. If so, since the article was positive from Chase's perspective, any punishment should be short lived. I do not say this is right or wrong, or even that this is the reason, but perhaps could be a viable explanation. We run our receivers in and out regularly anyway so as long as it is just a non start and not non play it should be ok.
My mistake, Sledge slipped my mind. I guess a little to much NCAA 2006. I think sledge has looked pretty good so far. I just wish we could see our receivers thrown to and catching more balls (hopefully for more than 5 yards at a time). I live for the day when I can see our passing game open up a bit. Then plow ahead with Martin and notch a win.
I don't think so. Media is at practice every time I stop by, and I see Calvin Watkins talking to players all the time. Besides, that interview with the WV reporter had to be set up through the school, so I'm sure it was OK'ed. Somehow, I think we're barking up the wrong tree with the idea that this is in response to his comments in that story. That's just a guess, but that's my gut feeling.
If this "Bizzaro World", shouldn't we be 3 and 1, or at least a decent football team? #NewLobCity
Chase is listed as a slot receiver this year, with Lowery second string.
I don't recall off-hand seeing Chase line up in the slot. I'm sure he has. I can't watch everyone at once. Mainly I see him line up outside in a usual WR position. I don't recall him running any usual slot receiver routes. If he is listed as the slot guy then who is listed as the outside guy besides Pellerin? They run 3-5 WR sets, so guys are constantly coming and going. Seems to me they could have picked somone other than Bobby to replace. He has good speed and very good hands. If this is some kind of punishment it is the dumbest move since Cavan benched Womack against TCU.
I wonder what depth chart that came off of, because if memory serves correctly, didn't Chase play outside all of last year, too?
Perhaps it was merely a misprint? In fact, I think I remember Lowery lining up on the outside last year, too.
No, it isn't a misprint, it has been indicated that way on every single "game notes" that has been issued.
Basically, that "slot" position I think lines up outside unless they go to a 4 WR set, in which case it is in the slot. So, Pellerin is the #1 WR group. Chase was at the #2 receiver, which was called a slot. Foster was #3 (also listed as a slot), Cleveland #4. In 3 WR sets, Foster would come in, which pushed Chase outside. In 4 WR sets, Chase goes inside, Cleveland comes outside. The "slot" terminology is just from the game notes...
