Worst CFB Offense Ever?

Postby Digetydog » Sat Sep 27, 2014 4:41 pm

With 1 TD in 4 games, does SMU have the worst offense in college football history?

For those that don't recall, 2003 was awful. I didn't watch the '89 season so I can't speak to that.

However, the 2003 team was awful across the board. No QB; no receivers; no defense. Running back that seemed to fumble at the goal line so often my friends wondered if it was on purpose. People would harp on Bennett for not getting pressure with 4 down lineman and complain about the lack of blitz. I recall the time he did blitz in an obvious passing situation and a need to make something happen and getting zero pressure.

The offense was so inept that I recall a time when we got an interception late in the game about the opponent's 35. I thought at the time I wish we returned the ball for a TD or didn't get the ball at all because I thought it was more likely SMU would return a turnover for a touchdown than it was that our offense would score.

That was inept.

Was that the year Kincade ran 98 yards from the 1 to the 1 and fumbled and lost the ball?

And yet, they managed 23 points against the 3 Big 12 teams they played (nearly four times as much as this year's team has).

Believe that was against UTEP, yep.

That 2003 team might have been bad but they were competitive at the very least. 3 point loss at Baylor, 2 point loss vs UTEP, 7 point loss to nationally ranked TCU, 9 point loss to Fresno State, 3 point loss at Nevada.

Well the 2003 team scored a TD against Baylor and Tech and only lost to a ranked TCU team by 7 so I would say that team is light years better than this one

The 89 team played a full SWC schedule plus Notre Dame. We scored on everyone.

Don't quote me on this, but I think only one o line player is a junior. The rest are a mix of true fr, rs fr and sophomores

I remember that game against UTEP because I actually made it to that one; that play was classic SMU post death penalty football
