it is only against the rules to disrupt hearing them. Such almost requires a complaint to know when it is disruptive. We could be doing the same every game.

SMU's Band has been flagged at least twice for that-including in a crucial 4th Q Drive in a 35-31 loss to A&M in 1985. Another time within the last 5 years

It was disruptive to me in the stands. Had to be deafening on the field. Coaches said the next day they did not know they had to complain.

I'm really past the point of caring about this stuff, but in the 80s SMU would play Peruna over 700 times during a game regularly.

Then, they stopped - and the excuse was NCAA rules about bands playing during the game.

It can't go both ways. If TCU can play while we have the ball, then we sure as hell can play the hell out of Peruna when we have the ball. Not to mention blasting Pony Battle Cry when they have the ball.

I just leave every game SMH because so many things are just wrong about the whole thing.

Maybe we need to complain about them playing today if it was illegal?

And, if TCU knows they can do it until the other team complains - how unclassy of them!

This comes up every year, one year I went through the ncaa rulebook posted online. The band section is lumped in with artificial noisemakers. Anyone can go find the exact rules. Perhaps I overlooked a section.

This is so typical SMU. Lack of attention to detail.... in so many areas. Little things make the difference - sweat the small stuff.

There was also a moment last year where the refs said to turn down the stadium music being played over the PA

Isn't disruptive noise during the opponents offensive possession a big role that the home fans play in the game and....oh, I see, nevermind.

What occurred today was unacceptable. SMU SID you must get this fixed and never let it occur again. In addition to the national anthem f up the multi media was over the top bad bad bad. This isn't even a college sporting event anymore. Bad. Bad. Bad.

so true. Whoever in charge at SMU has no attention to detail. It's embarrassing.

Maybe it is further proof SMU could care less about football. I am half serious, half joking

SID:
First, thank you for following the board and responding. Had to get that out of the way.

Second, this is a simple example of a systemic problem. Attention to detail is a key element or a well run organization. Little slip-ups like this are symptoms of a more serious issue. The fact that prior to a game that is national televised, no one ran through the national anthem to ensure it was queued up correctly and ready to go, is inexcusable. Systemic laziness on the little things grows into a cancer that impacts far more important aspects of the program and athletic department...and sets a bad example of the standard that should be expected from SMU both on campus and from students. Is it a small incident? Maybe (being military, we don't play around when it comes to colors and the anthem). Does it indicate that there is a gap between expectations and results with certain individuals not carrying out their duties with the respect to those positions that they deserve? That is a question for you to answer. I just hope the importance of a professional appearance and performance is stressed to everyone who carries out even the most mundane task, whether they be paid staff or student assistants, etc.

Third, thanks again for following the boards and best of luck with the remainder of the fall semester and all associated programs and activities.

Also, can we drop the "Best Dressed Band in the Land" tagline on weeks when they wear polo shirts?
