O-Line and Quarterback

Postby EconPony'10 » Mon Sep 29, 2014 11:07 am

Whoever we get as a head coach, if they can just recruit an O-Line and a good QB it would make us competitive in the American quickly. Like next year quickly. MUST GET A STUD QB

For some reason, SMU hasn't been able to land a big time QB out of HS. How can a coach not convince a young QB from the area that if he turns the program around in Dallas he will get as much press as Tony Freakin Romo???

Might wanna add a few stud WR's and someone who can consistently pressure the QB.

For a roster full of shifty midget wideouts we don't have anyone that creates separation.
Back off Warchild seriously.

I was going to ask why stop at OL and QB?

Just thinking of quick fixes for next year. We all saw how GG masked an 0-12 team last year. Our Defense is good enough to be competitive.

Wouldn't hurt to grab 2-3 at every other position besides punter while he is at it

You sure about that, I mean our defense is the worst in FBS and all.

When you have an offense as apathetic as ours and go 3 and out 95% of the drives it's kind've hard to compare our defense with the rest of college football. Also when we never score any points I'm sure it is pretty disheartening for them.

The defense has been left out to dry by the offense but the way they're being physically manhandled (even by a C-USA team) suggests that talent (or lack thereof) is their biggest issue. We'll need serious upgrades on that side of the ball to be "competitive" with legit competition.

Strength is a massive issue. The defensive line is not holding up, and our smaller linebackers are getting destroyed. Really a big surprise with so many returning players.

Something happened this year with the offseason program. Barnes is a fantastic example. Mason wanted him to come back strong and in great shape so that he can play a hybrid DE/OLB. But Barnes shows up at 230? 225? He lost an incredible amount of weight and took the option away from Mason.

This is actually a serious question, did someone take away all their roids? SMU start testing heavily or something?

I believe Barnes was told to lose some weight to play OLB. Other than that everyone else looks about the same as last year. Since Gentry and Minor took Barnes place Barnes isn't the problem. We just need better players.

Somehow we have managed to have more time of possession than our last two opponents.

Barnes was asked to get in shape to play LB, not drop down to 225 or 230. Mason wanted him in camp at 250.

I guess you just have to ask yourself, would you rather lose 56-0 or 56-35
