Last thing I heard was Alumni Center. No idea if that's changed or really what an alumni center would do.
Tickled to hear that the SMU Aquatics Center will be happening.

I would love to see a dorm/fountain/ alumni center. Actually I think that more student housing would be great, but I would rather see it on the north side of campus. Although it looks like you might be able to turn Armstrong Quad 90 degrees and fit it where the natatorium/ outdoor pool were/are. That would give another two dorms (~500-600 students) places to live.
I think that Rick is in-tune to the university and how the general public (alumni) feel about the sports teams.

I think they have hit their goal of student housing for the two year residential commons, unless they see it result in a huge spike of students to stay on campus for their 3rd/4th year, I doubt they add another residential college. Rice retains a large amount of their students on campus beyond the first two years. Not sure about more comparable schools.

I guess that's a chicken /egg issue. If you build it will they come? I was just reading an DMN article about SMU expansion (old one) and Turner was quoted as being surprised by the nightlife on ND campus. My understanding is that they have 4 year housing (if you want 80% undergrads live on) and a Bar on campus. I bet if you built that you would get students who would stay on campus.
I know if would have rather stayed on campus for 4 years rather than two and pay for an apartment and all that, although I probably wouldn't have gotten a car then....

My sister went to ND. One of the big differences between SMU and ND is the alcohol tolerance. - One year, SMU tried to fine my fraternity $500 per keg (empties brought back to the house by mistake by the pledges). Even in the late 80's, walking around campus with a beer was recipe for having to meet with that nutjob -{Brito?} and the police. I can't imagine living as an upperclassman in a SMU dorm. - In constrast, ND didn't seem to care about alcohol. While visiting her, I went to a game. Before the game, there were tailgates with obvioulsy underage people going on everywhere. After the game, we went to the Linebacker which was packed with obviously underage people drinking freely. From what my sister has told me, drinking is fine - getting hammered is not.
Do unto others before they do unto you!!

have you been to a Blvd? I think the alcohol tolerance is not really an issue.

Isn't ND Catholic? Isn't SMU Bible Belt Methodist?

Yes, and no.
I think there are more Catholic kids then Methodist kids on campus. 26% vs 16%. But that is only during the Blvd, during the regular day/evening the SMU cops have been caught listening into conversations behind doors in one fraternity house. a Couple of us saw them just standing outside a door listening to the conversation inside a room, which they ended up busting for pot * not smoking it yet, but talking about smoking it*
They and some RA's were pretty ruthless about no underage drinking. Also SMU was pretty vocal about not changing the liquor laws in HP/UP.
