Re SMU I have said all along that I think Chad Morris will be the next head coach. Nothing I have heard since then has changed my mind.

I will continue to pass along whatever I hear in the coaching community. Very large interest in the SMU job.

Had a couple of interesting conversations with some very well connected friends in the high school football realm. Two very interesting nuggets (without giving specific names) were:
One, a Texas high school football legend that has been contacted (allegedly) by SMU about the opening for his opinion. He thinks this is a great job. He's not a BSer so it was good to hear from an outsider and a legend like him.
Two, and more interesting was that Chad's name has been run up the flagpole (as our AD said he would) with the high school football coaches (again, allegedly) who love the idea of Chad at SMU and thinks that is what is going to happen. No other names had been run up the flagpole outside of Chad from my understanding. Chad wants to come back to Texas.
Take all this with a grain of salt as third/fourth hand information. But this came from all non-SMU affiliated people so I found it interesting and thought I should share.

So is this a Tubbs situation? We hire him and they give lip service to one of their own, or worse we hire someone else and they cry they didn't get "their"pick.

You are right. SMU should never ever hire some again that had support in the state even if they are the best candidate. Worked well for JJ didn't it.

He asked a question, he did not make a statement to be right or wrong. No reason to jump down his throat.

apples to oranges. chad morris is a high profile coordinator at Clemson and has had his pick of several P5 and non P5 jobs, has interviewed for major positions and is generally regarded as the next OC to move to HC. He isn't a Texas-centric pick, although I think he wants back in Texas. His dream job is TAMU, and he will likely get it whenever Sumlin moves up. But to get Morris for even a 3 year period would be a coup (IMHO). Tubbs was a Dallas HS coaches guys. That was it.

The thought that a high school coaches' preference would be the deciding factor in where a football recruit decides to go to school is pretty far out there. It just gets your feet in the door.

Hey tough guy, Im just questioning out of my concern of only running one name up the flagpole.

I would just take the words I typed at face value. I have no major inside source that I know personally. It's a friend of a friend type situation. SMU's coaching search came up in our talks and they divulged some info they had. I know very little so when I said, that Chad's name is the only name run up the flagpole currently, that's my knowledge garnered from secondhand sources. I'll guess that more names have come up or will come and that my friends are not privy to that info. With that said, I'll take a guess that SMU's #1 choice at this time is Morris.
Just a little water cooler gossip during a bye week. This is not sourced breaking news.

They may have run some names by other people that no one on the board is aware of.
