shelby walker

Postby vielsiehorsepower » Mon Oct 13, 2014 6:27 pm

Just saw on the espn team roster that he is 144 as a true freshman...did june actually think this guy didn't need a rs year? Then again, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that good ole june wasted a rs on a #6 receiver in the lineup.

Also, I'm not sure if Cedric Lancaster is a rs freshman or a true but he's only 155. Unless I overlooked some one there is not a starting receiver that weighs more than 195

Just venting..I'm sickened by the consistent mismanagement of this roster

Seeing crap like that really makes you wonder. We have a weight room. Is there anyone on the staff that, you know, makes the players go pick up those heavy things in that room?

Redshirt year would have done him good so that he could have hit the weights and dining table.

Not sure what Walker weighs now. I believe he checked in at 147 and ran off a few pounds during preseason camp to get down to 144. To be fair, lots of 18-year-old guys burn up everything they eat, so there's no reason to believe Walker won't bulk up, and maybe a lot. But yes, he's pretty lean.

Even if Vic were still here Walker would probably be about the same size now. You generally put on weigh in the off season weight training program not during the season. That is why a redshirt would have done well for him.

June ran him off? Is that honestly what happened? I thought he got the job at FSU and resigned from SMU.

Vic probably makes 3x what smu would pay him.
Fun fact: one of our asst strength coaches left for Mississippi State like the year after vic left.

It is one thing to have a couple of guys who are small, but look at our recent recruiting classes. How many people did June bring in under 6' (or 5'10") in the past couple of years.

Having a small guy (see -> Rocket Ismail) on your team is not a problem. Having too many small guys is a problem. By my count (which could be off a bit), our roster has 29 people who don't weigh more than 200lbs. Assuming some "inflation" on size/weight, the true number is probably closer to the 35+. http://www.smumustangs.com/sports/m-foo ... l-mtt.html

Many of our players are in the 170lb range??

You know there is a few big guys on the Men's swimming team that are over 200. We could just move some of them over to the football team.

And I was 180 going into college, I don't think I've been 140 since middle school. That's just tiny.

Even if they are fast enough to play somewhere at that size, the lack of size has to be killing us on our Special Teams.
