Texas, LSU announce future home-and-home

In September, Notre Dame cancelled a pair of games with Texas — paying UT $150,000 in the process — even as they were announcing a home-and-home series with Texas A&M.

A month later, the Longhorns have found a high-profile replacement for the Irish. Reportedly.

While nothing has been finalized, Chip Brown of HornsDigest.com is reporting Thursday afternoon that UT and LSU “have agreed in principle to play a home and home series in 2019 and 2020.” The 2019 game would take place in Austin, the 2020 game in Baton Rouge.

For what it’s worth, Ross Dellenger of the Baton Rouge Advocate tweeted a short time ago that the two football programs ‘are in serious discussion’ for a home-and-home series in 2019-2020 and are close to finalizing a deal.”

An official announcement from the two schools could come as early as this week.

The two teams played 14 times between 1902 and 1963. Since then, they’ve met just once — the Cotton Bowl following the 2002 season.

The Longhorns lead the all-time series 8-6-1.

UPDATED 3:08 p.m. ET: Both LSU and Texas have confirmed the home-and-home series for 2019 and 2020.
