Realistic list

Postby dcpony » Fri Oct 07, 2005 2:23 pm

I'm really pulling for PB this year and next year. But it doesn't look good.In my opinion these are guys that might consider the HC job:

R.C. Slocum (AGGY retread, will run the ball all the time)

Darell Dickey( NTSU HC, SMU OC for our only post-dp wining season)

Ramon Flanigan(SMU Alum, current NTSU OC)

Jim Harbaugh (Head Coach somewhere in 1-aa, brings NFL cred)

Mike Singletary(says he wants to be a HC, NFL cred, and just an all around bad [deleted])

David Cutcliffe (retread, kicking butt as ND OC)

Steve Sarkisian (some NFL cred, Chow protege, and current USC OC)

Charlie Waters (former Cowboy, Don't know who this guy but some of y'all talk about him a lot.)

Rick Neuheisel (retread, maybe)

Jerry Glanville (big time retread)

Bob Davie (lame anouncer retread)

John Cooper (retread, Is he still alive?)

HCs at NIU, Bowling Green, or Miami (Ohio) ( I don't know who these dudes are, but these teams for the most part are always competitive when they line up against big time programs and they don't have the luxury of recruiting TX)

I have a list and I will share it at the appropriate time. I am at 10 names and counting. I am pretty sure most would take the job if offered- that is my opinion.

Darell Dickey will likely not go to a bowl this year; wrong time to bring him in. Loads up on Juco, late and partial qualifiers, and coaches in a bad, bad conference. Not a terrible idea, but not the best choice either.

Flanigan-hire him for OC, not for head coach. Will bet anyone $50 he won't get an interview for any headcoaching job at 1-A level for 10 years. There are other, far more qualified african american coordinators out there waiting for a chance.

Slocum-I can see it; not sure how I feel about it.

Jim Harbough is next coach of UCSD. He doesn't even have to move.

Mike Singletary-Hell, why not?

I wouldn't mind him. I grew up in Houston and I loved watching those Cougar High teams. But some of the alums wouldn't have it because of the 95-21 debacle. Jenkins currently works for Forrest Greg as a scout for some CFL team.

Wait, you added a bunch, which I won't talk about. The coach at Miami (Ohio) is new, he was elevated from offensive coordinator at the end of the year. He doesb't get credit for Miami's success. And none of those are leaving.

If you really want to go get an existing Division 1A HC, consider getting the guy SMU plays on Saturday-Mack's brother.

Watson Brown will be coaching a big time program in the very near future.

I forgot to throw in Eric Schuman (former SMU DC)

What about Bruce Dickinson (yes, THE Bruce Dickinson). Sure he puts on his pants just like the rest of us - one leg at a time. Except, once his pants are on, he makes gold football teams.
It's a crappy job but someone's gotta do it.

get the survivors of the search committee that "discovered" Ron Meyer and see if they can do their magic again.

cdpony--interesting list. isn't ramon flanigan a little young for a career ending job? i still think any coach coming here has to know half his potential hs recruits won't be able to find a major they want to take. and the quick-fix juco recruits won't have the smu-required transferrable hours even if there were a player friendly major. so after 3-4 years of traction-free recruiting and no talent improvement, we can start the process all over, looking for a new coach. here's an idea. sign 3 different coaches to three consecutive 4 year contracts! it won't make any difference in the win column, either, but that second coach who is probably currently unemployed, can really get a jump on recruiting his first class! and we will be able to claim we have a new "model" like no other!
