No coach with a "name" is coming to the Hilltop. Butch Davis will only go to a school with a big payroll and name ID. Arkansas would fit that bill, but he would be an idiot to go there. He could land a better job elsewhere.

Norm Chow ain't coming. He is coaching in the pros. He is the OC for the Titans, and even though they are "offensive" this year, he will go to a big named school when he heads out of Nashville.

Long does not have a "name" to the everyday fan. How many of you knew who the coach of New Mexico was before this thread? How many of you knew his record? Who knows where Butch Davis coached last in college? Most everyone, I'm sure.

If we cannot lure coaches like Long here, we are destined for what we have had in the past.

Fire Copeland first, bring in an AD who will make the necessary changes and all this talk of 'SMU graveyard' is moot.

Simply having Big Jim fire PB and then hire his replacement and it is a valid point.

Conclusion….fire both…Copeland first.

I'd rather have Toledo before Long. Toledo has more Texas connections (aTm before UCLA).

Houston Nutt has recruited well in Texas, too.

My recollection is that Chow was interested for the right $$$. But the money he wanted was stupid money for (a) a non-bcs school; and (b) someone who has never been a head coach. If I remember correctly, it was more than what Stoops got to leave Miami for OU.

In contrast, Stoops (the one at Arizona now), did flat out turn down an interview.

Nutt will eventually be in Dallas, but it won't be at SMU.

Can SMU realistically afford to pay off Bennett, hire a new coach, and keep paying Dement?

El Centro? Seriously though, I doubt he'll be replacing the Tuna once he decides to hang it up. Jerry's already dipped into that well and I doubt he'll do it again. Then again, we have seen pigs fly with him...no pun intended.

UNM recruiting criteria is not the same as SMU. He cannot touch some of those players.

It may be part of PB problems with his D scheme.

If you can complete the SAT, you can get into KState or UNM

Chow is in his first season as the offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans.
