Do you guys idolize Jimmy Buffet? What's your favorite Buffet song? Mine is Barometer Soup. I have never been to Greenville but I have been to Chape Hill and Ashville. Great state. Great people. Maybe I will travel out there again one day if we ever become a winning team.

Okay you Pirates. Tell me this.

Several years ago, early to mid 90's, ECU had a very strong football program. 9 and 10 win seasons were common. I remember watching the Liberty Bowl one year and ECU traveled with something like 20,000 fans to the game.

What happened? I think the coach at the time left and then the program took a step back. Who was that coach, and how did he do at his next stop?

A good friend of mine went to that Liberty Bowl game as a neutral observer and came away with an ECU hat that a fan gave him. He said that the ECU fans were the nicest and most spirited group he had been involved with.

Here's hoping we meet ya'll in the C-USA Championship game in two years.

The only men this Pirate idolizes is the Great Pirate Roberts and Blackbeard himself. Both be true scourges of the 7 seas that any buccaneer worth his wages would gladly go on account with. Singing and songwriting is a good life I'm sure, but pyratin' on the open seas be the only life for me.

Besides, I hear Jimmy Buffett can be as much as 200 years late. That would make the Capt'n a bit salty when departin' from the port of Bath... and surely rusult in a taste of the cat fur Jimmy.

Arrrgh! Pass ye rum.

Caballo the man of which you speak is a sore subject in Pirate land and can cause fellow Pirates to draw blades on one another either for or against him.

That would be Coach Steve Logan, he actually had ECU doing well on up to 2000 when they beat Texas Tech in the Furniture bowl(now Houston). Things then started to slide under his tenure and the collapse vs Marshall in the Mobile bowl was the begining of the end. There was a definte problem between him and the AD at the time and the Chancellor then sided with the AD and he was fired, he has recently been an assistant coach in NFL Europe.... he has done some things since leaving that I will not dredge up that have parts of the Pirate Nation in uproar. Me, if they would've fired the AD it would have been nice to see if he could've turned it but I think he lost the fire... the whole mess probably cost ECU a BE slot due to the bad timing, a bad Chancellor, questionable at best AD, and a PO'd burned out coach.

John Thompson was hired as coach and while a decent fellow was a terrible coach, I really think at times I could've done better if definately not worse.

Anyhow the AD left, the chancellor was forced out, our New Chancellor is great and probably made one of the best hires of ECU history AD Terry Holland. He fired Thompson and hired Skip Holtz who went on to hire one of the more experienced staffs to grace the Pirate deck. He is in the process of rebuilding in his first year but the team already plays like a team and has shown signs of improvement weekly, as bad as CUSA is this year there are even cautious thoughts of a bowl. Anyway most are happy with Skip and estatic with the leadership and vison Coach Holland has brought, he has teams coming to Greenville on a one for one basis that were thought impossible before.

As for Coach Logan he was an offensive genius, sometimes to his detriment... I think he out thought himself sometimes... if you vist Pirate boards it would be best not to bring him up... he is still a very polarizing force in the Pirate Nation.

This may hit home to some on this board. John Thompson was an excellent DC at Arkansas but did not make it as a HC. That is the case sometimes.

Sounds like this is a sore subject. I am surprised that "The Coach Who Shall Not Be Named to the Pirate Nation" had such a good run and is now banished to NFL Europe. I remember him being a pretty young coach with a bright future. Did he steal some Pirate's wench and treat her in a vile and disgusting manner? Or did he not stick to "The Code."

I know ECU will be back on track very soon with the leadership you have in place. A strong ECU is good for C-USA, so here's hoping you get there sooner than later. Just don't let it kick in prior to 6 p.m. Saturday, Central Time.

Go Ponies.

and remember the code when another conference comes a calling.....question though, why are all pirate teams purple and gold (and least it seems that way), my HS team was the pirates and they were purple and gold, now the ECU pirates? What gives with the purple and gold?
The donkey's name is Kiki.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.

Pirates are all about gold, but Pittsburgh is black and gold. I can't think of any other "pirate" nicknames off the top of my head unless you want to count the Bucs.

BTW, as to the original subject of this thread. I made my wife read/listen to the poem....she's still not in the mood. I call false advertisement.
