for what its worth Cardale Jones made the Honor Roll the next two semesters. And no I don't know if it was any more or less rigorous than the college degrees SMU athletes congregate into (or perhaps should have)-only 1 of which is on suspension this semester

But kids say a lot of stupid things on the Twitter machine-sometimes for laughs and attention-I'd be careful about defining them by those statements

Can't recall the name of the player offhand, but this (and Stallions subsequent post about his honor roll status) remind me of Clarette's backup who transferred from OSU to Maryland. Can't recall specifics, but basically, kid left as a senior or 2nd semester junior and was accepted at Maryland as a Sophomore (barely) requiring a bunch of remedial classes. Turns out, when they looked at his course load, majority of his courses were taught by football coaches and consisted of going over the gameplan and video work.

OSU is a joke academically for athletes, but that doesn't make it special. From all indications, it is probably much better than UNC was and is (of course, they will never actually get to the bottom of that scandal outside of civil litigation because of who it might implicate and the expansive impact it would have...10% of athletes being functionally illiterate is a wonderful number even if it is a grand overstatement). Had a relative who played at UVA and quit their program because they required right of refusal on any courses he intended to take. Academic standards for athletes are probably on par with kids of major donors...enable to ensure the financial gains are realized. Until they fix the system by more than aggressive selective enforcement, the system will continue to produce money for the schools and athletes who better not get hurt before their first big payday.

And I believe the UNC story includes a former player who was on the Dean's list who claims he never even attended class. I would agree that kids say stupid things on twitter, but add that administrators and enablers do much more negative things on campus too. Maybe if we held the "adults" accountable, the kids might follow along? Maybe I am just an old soul. Maybe he was just holding out for a free tattoo?
