Re: Quarterback for Next Season
Does anyone know the deal on Donnie Gilray on this board, cos the recruiting board is talking like he is coming back...if so, I think Gilray would be 2nd. If his arm is half as strong as they say it is, it would be stronger than Mark Hodges'. Hodges is an option QB remember. Yeah he can throw, but if he were to play this next season, he would have the slowest release in the whole league. If Gilray comes back, Hodges moves to WR, he is very tall and fast and would be a great reciever, especially considering the personel in that position now. But that's just an opinion...

I'm not one for keeping warm bodies at a position just because that's the position for which they were recruited. I think Wallis clearly is not Division 1 material at QB. Move him! He makes an intriquing TE prospect but he'll need time to develop. Same with Hodges if he doesn't have the necessary arm strength as you say-I've never seen him play except in the state HS Championship game. He has great size, good speed and I think he was a state qualifier at the High Jump. That says TE to me-another pretty good prospect at a position we need some help. Why waste time developing a player who will never be the answer. SMU is a very big long-shot for a bowl or a winning record next year-so why not think 1-2 years down the line. Start Bartel who I think did fine for his first 4-5 starts and get either Meeks or Phillips ready to play. Redshirt the other. If an injury occurs you can always move one back. Start building for the future and get these top recruits on the field NOW. I bet ole R.C. wished had!

So Stallion is responsible for this trend.....Stallion wrote: I think Wallis clearly is not Division 1 material at QB. Move him! He makes an intriquing TE prospect but he'll need time to develop.

Bartel had potential and had the best pass efficiency we had seen in a while. I believe he ended lower that Mitchell (without checking.)
Interesting to see the relative issues. We had Wallis as QB?!? Well, it was three yards and a cloud of dust at that time.
