gonzaga is highly visible because of their past success at march madness. 10 years ago, i doubt many kids around here would even know that gonzaga was a school - they know it now as a cool place to play ball. gonzaga gets much better recruits than they did 10 years ago.

gonzaga would be a good school for us to pattern ourselves after. recruit smart, hardnosed kids who can run a patterned offense and defense. i am keeping my fingers crossed that tubbs will create this type of system for us.

To answer your question as to how tubbs is percieved by the AAU community - they think he is not the caliber of a head coach, and the coach of a very well known aau team here told me he is worst than dement. I cant believe SMU hired this guy as head coach

It's too bad that AAU Coaches even enter into the equation. An all too large number of those coaches are egotistical, self centered, and have very little regard for what is in the best interests of the player.

I guess that translates into, Tubbs won't pay them or start using their shoes, Dement would at least look at their shoes. Does anyone else think this is kind of sleezy. Perhaps Lamar Hunt ought to fund a couple of AAU teams using ex-SMU players as "coaches". Let's see, one in Dallas, one in Houston and one in Chicago ought to be put us in good stead to sign a pretty good team.

This kind of reminds me how certain "Prep" schools became defacto minor leagues for the large college programs. Fork Union Military Academy used to be the pipeline to Ohio State and Penn State. Bullis School used to be the Navy Academy prep school (they've now severed that relationship). Georgetown Prep used to be the prep school for Georgetown (they're even called the Little Hoyas). Thus, if you were a stud football player, you were sent to one of these prep schools for your 13th year of high school and then went to the pipeline school. These schools have scholarship monies for athletes the sources of which are not completely apparent.

Bullis! I knew they were cheaters. I used to play against Bullis when Sugar Ray Leonard's son played there. His dad's strength and speed definitely got passed on to the next generation. As I recall, he scored four touchdowns against us .... and he was only in the 10th grade. (Of course, a lot of teams had big days against us. Jesse Jackson, Jr., looked like Clinton Portis against us.)

Plus there is more 'soft money' going thru these AAU coaches than anything " Tom Delay" has authorized.
