Patterson wants 6 team playoff

Even though TCU was left out of the inaugural College Football Playoff this season, Gary Patterson isnâ€™t one of those people clamoring to see it go from four teams to eight teams.

Nope, heâ€™d like to see it go to six teams.

In doing so, Patterson said the top two teams would get byes, and if the other leagues agreed to do away with their conference championship games, the current playoff schedule could stay intact, and there would be a representative from all Power 5 conferences, along with a true at-large team.

â€œTo me, it makes no sense to have four playoff spots and then have five conferences,â€ Patterson told ESPN.com. â€œThis way gives everybody a chance to have their champion or their best team be a part of the playoff, and a sixth team that could be from any conference, and then you get down to that final four pretty quickly and still not change the way we do things.

Much more likely the Big 12 is forced to add a championship game, rather than the other 4 majors agreeing to give theirs up.

That or another conference says "We'll take Texas and OU, see the rest of you suckers later" and they only need 4 after that anyway.

Of course he wants 6 teams. Then if TCU finishes 7th, he'll want 8.

Hey Gary, there are actually 10 conferences. You seem perfectly happy excluding people, as long as it isn't you.

I don't care who he coaches, he's right. It's utter BS to have 5 major conferences and only 4 spots, and even worse when you consider the fact that other conferences are completely out of the mix. Something needs to change.

6 teams with a G-5 play in spot would be the next obvious step.
