missles continue to fly right over the heads of so many on this board. What changed is the market and the market determines business strategy-exactly as the DMN editor described. Where were all you sunshiners 15 years ago when you were being warned that the market was going through a permanent revolution and unless SMU got off its [deleted] it would be left behind. You were too busy sucking up to Ken Pye talking about the Magnolia League and high Graduation rates while he was flushing the future down the drain.

Warned by who? The vast majority of fans back then had no knowledge or idea of what Pye had done to SMU athletics. All we knew is that we were starting from scratch and it would take awhile to recuperate from the dp...some even said 10 years, but no one said we had tied our coach's hands behind his back.

I don't remember getting a letter from you, Stallion, "warning" me about the new market structure or whatever. I, however, should have paid more attention because when I met Pye in LA after a speech to the alums, I asked him if Stanford shouldn't be our model. He said, "No! We are going to be the 'cleanest' school in the nation'. They aren't clean." I guess that was a "warning" in a way. I remember hearing that it would take "10 years" to come back, too. I also remeber thinking surely it wouldn't take that long! Ha! :(

We were just never told which ten years. I think they actually began last year.

PK, I disagree...the SMU crowd I hung around certainly knew that Pye was destroying us...probably permanently..I actually told anyone who would listen that SMU would not have a football program in 20 years...looks like I was wrong on that one...but not by much

Not sure what your time frame was when you knew...but I still think that the majority of the fans did not know.

PK,

Then the majority of SMU fans are not very strategic in their thinking…which I find hard to believe.

Fact 1 – SMU has always been reliant on UT, A&M and to a lesser extent Arkansas for its long-term health.

Fact 2 – Arkansas was a precursor of what potentially bad could happen to SMU.

Fact 3 – Don’t [deleted] off schools mentioned in Fact 1 or ever perform at such a low level as to become irrelevant to them….the consequences could be fatal.

Pye made sure we became irrelevant so to some extent we deserve our punishment….non-BCS hell. Maybe Kenneth had a high IQ, but his idealism pushed to an extreme (example is Stanford quote) makes him IMO a complete moronic idiot ideally suited for academia.

One final note…we should strive to be the best non-BCS school in the nation (very doable goal) with the remote chance that if we ever get an opportunity at redemption, we are well-positioned re-enter the real world of the BCS. TCU has that figured out…we don’t.
