Old enough to know better and young enough not to care.

I am having trouble figuring out how old I was when I was born.

First time the TI batteries ran down, I had to ship it to Lubbock for new ones and it took about 2 weeks. The next time I went to TI in Richardson and they were in awe of my machine. They asked if they could keep it for their museum and training for when other geezers brought theirs in. Gave me some high caliber type of light weight machine with functions I never could figure out.

My grandmother bought me TI stock when I was born in 1966. I sold it when I was at SMU to buy a nice stereo and probably beer.

If I still had my original I could probably sell it and buy a house.

I don't often do this survey thing but for this one I have to join with Arkpony so that fans of reasonable and normal maturity will be fairly represented.

Arkpony - If the survey had twelve year age groups all the way to our category I guess there would be just the two of us at the apex.

On a different subject I 'm glad the Sherrington article about the '58 A&M game in the DMN appeared and also the one about the players and coach from those days meeting at Kuby's.

I keep looking at the long list of names in the elaborate basketball section of the athletic department as seen on the SMUMUSTANGS web site. I'm glad that we have it and all of us appreciate what they have done the last few years, and as always, I'm grateful to the donors.

But the newspaper coverage just mentioned reminds that the basketball program basically had two men back in the fifties - Doc Hayes and Bob Prewitt. I suppose there was a secretary - or assistant to use the current word but I have no idea who that was. If I'm wrong

Hayes coached the Varsity assisted by Prewitt. Prewitt coached the Freshmen. Prewitt also ran gym clasees and was involved with intramurals. Between them they scouted and recruited. when SMU finally let Hayes step down from being HC my memory is that he and Prewitt traded seats for a year. Prewitt took the Varsity and Hayes the Freshmen.

Maybe the BB department was relatively simple in all the SWC schools in those day. But SMU tried to do it on the cheap. Inadequate funding to continue or improve what Hayes and Prewitt had going between 1954 and 1958 was as big a mistake as the failure to hire Frank Broyles as football coach.

The above would make another good DMN article, even if I've got a detail or two wrong after so many years.

Looking at the results so far, PF.com users seem to be a bit younger than I thought . . . . although I'm not sure how truly representative it is of the whole. I'm not quite at the Arkpony level yet, but close. :-)

I think I would have been 40 or so when Nic's parents were born. Watching the Mustangs
the past couple of years has made me feel a lot younger.

I was in a restaurant/bar near SMU one day last Fall when Larry Showalter sat down at the table next to us. He was on the Final Four team. We visited some about the 1954-58 team and what could have been. Nice guy but boy he looked old! :)
