Clock management is an ongoing problem, but,
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but there was 14 seconds left at the begining of the play. Then we had the penalty which moved the ball back, making it a career long field goal for MacMurtray. I assume PB was going for a quick strike to make it a closer try. For some reason the clock restarted after the penalty, which forced the change in plan and the longer field goal. I have never heard of starting the clock after a penalty, but I am not a referee so I don't know the rules. Rich Phillips and Craig Swan were questioning why the clock started running also.
Does anyone know the story on this?

an offense can't stop the clock by creating its own penalty. Otherwise, you would see it all the time when a team was out of Time Outs. Now if it was on the defense-it wasn't-the clock would stop

Stallion is correct on the ruling. We should have called time out after the penalty and still had 14 seconds left on the clock. Instead we called time out with 8 seconds left and we were unable to run one more play to get the ball closer.

Hell, we probably saved us from ourselves by waiting and forcing the kick.

One more play hoping for a home run hail mary or trying a field goal are pretty equal choices although the odds for success are probably greater for the field goal. Both plays have a possible down side of either Houston intercepting a pass and running it back for a score or a field goal attemp blocked and the ball picked up and taken back for a score. A lesser evil possibility would have been a failed attempt in either case and we go into overtime. I don't care who's idea it was, it was the right decision by Bennett to go with the field goal and it was a successful attempt.
The game may have been ugly at times, but the final score was beautiful.
Most games are UGLY at times, and our offense was ______ at least half
the game

Yes, yes in deed, our offense was ugly as sin for the first half at least, but let me reiterate...."The game may have been ugly at times, but the final score was beautiful."

hey maybe if we fire him we can get that "lets win one for the coach" mentality out of our players that will have them go out and pull an upset to try to prove to the world that their coach shouldn't have been fired....it did get us an extra win in Cavan's last year (theoretically)
