Re: Tiger Nichols May Be on Way OutNichols' family retains lawyer in effort to get unconditional release from Memphis
http://www.commercialappeal.com/sports/ ... id=dlvr.it “Memphis’ denial of his release is based upon a bad faith effort to deny his request to transfer,†Jackson wrote in the email. “The current NCAA regulations relative to member institution to member institution transfers violate the Sherman Act (as they illegally affect both the ‘input’ and ‘output’ markets). “Further, the restrictions are nothing more than a calculated effort to punish Austin’s family for his desire to transfer to a new program. Although the staff has attempted to imply ‘tampering,’ the broad nature of the restrictions clearly establishes that ‘tampering’ is not an issue; this is a calculated effort by a dysfunctional staff to punish a player for taking a step to remove himself from a failing program.â€

Memphis gives Austin Nichols a full release http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports. ... l-release/

Re: Tiger Nichols May Be on Way Out
NBC has updated the above story http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/07/14/report-austin-nichols-hires-lawyer-don-jackson-to-fight-transfer-restrictions/ The involvement of Paul Tudor Jones explains a lot -- specifically why the U of M suddenly decided to give him a full release. Contrary to the story, Jones doesn't live in Memphis, but his Dad and other family members do. He paid $35 million to name the UVA coliseum in honor of his Dad. Jones' family owns the Memphis Daily News, an influential business publication with a profitable real estate information subsidiary. His extended family includes some of the city's biggest movers and shakers. He has more money than everyone in Memphis but possibly Fred Smith. In short, if he wants Nichols to be able to attend UVA, it is not in the U of M's best interest to prevent it.
Re: Tiger Nichols May Be on Way OutSo in the future, if you want an unconditional release just go somewhere with a big pockets donor that can inflict PR damage on your current school?
I thought UM should have given him a release originally but in the future how do you justify putting restrictions on kids who transfer after you give this guy a free pass to go anywhere? 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient

Re: Tiger Nichols May Be on Way OutBack pages of the Dallas Observer?
Re: Tiger Nichols May Be on Way Outall I read was dysfunctional staff and failing program. Isn't that what all of this is really about, regardless of what big booster is pulling what strings? It's just not an issue if Pastner was worth a damn.
Re: Tiger Nichols May Be on Way Out
Dysfunctional staff and failing program is why he left. Advocates in high places is why he got an unconditional release, if NBC is to believed. I don't know if Paul Tudor Jones winked and nodded, but I do know that his winks and nods would get the U of M's attention.
