I think some college football gigs are a better deal than an NFL job...especially if it pays as much or more than a typical NFL job with half the stress.

Jimmie Johnson convinced a lot of people that announcing three months of the year was the best gig.

True...A&M gave Sumlin a 6yr/$30MM extension when the Texans came calling.

At some point I think you want to see how you can compete at the highest level, though.

One guy I'd be curious to see if they'd ever make the NFL jump is Gary Patterson. He's one of the best Xs and Os coaches period and he's not a lights out recruiter - he's one of the few college coaches that might be better suited for the pros.

I think GP has said he wants to become a sports commentator a la Mack Brown. I hope it is soon.

You think a P5 school couldn't match that?

Let's win 8 games and then worry about losing coach

If we go 6-6 and make a bowl this year, I bet some P5 program comes calling for HCCM. I don't think he'd leave after a year but it will be something for us to worry about every November/December, and that's a GOOD thing

A lot of good coaches get called, but not all leave. There's a reason GP never left TCU and that is because SWC Texas school gigs are top notch, have $$, prestige, best recruiting grounds, etc...you really don't thing Patterson's name was called for every open job especially after the Rose Bowl win? He stayed until he made the TCU job a P5 job.

I'm getting weary of the panic mode people get...one game under his belt and now A&M wants him. Same thing with HCLB and everyone saying he won't be here for more than 3 years bla bla...lol

Let's be cLear here, Morris would crawl naked on his Hands and knees in August with the road covered in glass and barbed wire from Dallas to college station for the Aggie job.

He's an incredibly ambitious man and wants to win win win and win at the highest levels of college football. This is a stepping stone job for him. That said, he ain't leaving the state of Texas for a p5 HC gig. It'd have to be Aggie or Bevo .

I'm just gonna enjoy the ride.
