A friend of mine who has been a loyal alumni for decades, has donated a relatively large amount of money to them on her own and has 4 season tickets, and now he's asking for an additional $1000/ticket for next year in order for her to keep her seats in addition to the increase of the tickets themselves. It's not like she's Red McCombs and I can't help but sympathize for someone who just wants to watch their school play live.

Look it's their program, they can do what they want with it, and if they want to use their alumni as an ATM that's their business. I also understand that market forces and such are going to drive ticket prices up. But you have more money than every school in the WORLD outside of flippin' Harvard and you won't even take the band with you to your away games and now you're trying to get money out of the MOB? Ugh. No thanks, go Owls.

Exactly. You gain NOTHING by charging the band except to begin ANOTHER spitting contest. Congrats, they're all arrogant SOB's. So much for having a conference.

That kind of thing is happening everywhere. I used to have sideline season tickets at Ole Miss. Not the greatest but pretty good. The two seats cost me about $400 a season each total (donation and season ticket price). I dropped them when the price of those same two seats went from $400 to just under $1,000 per seat.

Although I am not a season ticket holder, I am a Texas Alum (Grad School) and have a lot of UT friends.

Basically, the AD has managed to anger just about everyone with his obsession with maximizing revenues and minimizing costs and his inability to deal directly with Big Rich Donors.

Chip Brown did a great writeup on it; however, I could not find the original story. Most of it is included in this: http://www.burntorangenation.com/2015/6 ... s-director

And I got that. Like I said, prices are going to go up and I'm not against that. But when taken alongside the nickle-and-dime attitude that the EVERYTHING is to be used as a revenue you have to wonder what the deal is.

wow looking at those season ticket sales about 44,000 fans are paying $6,500-8,750 for a season ticket. Guess we got it pretty good here at SMU. How does that compare with Dallas Cowboy Season Tickets (of course there are more NFL games than college games)

I'm not a Steve Patterson fan but let me correct a few things that are false in this thread...

1) Average ticket prices at Texas went up 6% this year. A few people got hit hard who have been paying below market for years and a few peoples prices went down that were overpaying. 6% isn't that much...

2) The Big 12 is now requiring schools to charge other schools' bands for tickets. The issue isn't that they are charging other bands, it is that they are charging the bands $100/ticket which is twice what other schools are charging.

3) Take anything Chip Brown writes about Steve Patterson with a grain of salt, apparently Chip is dating a UT tennis coach that got let go by Patterson.

4) I wish SMU was playing UT this year. I think we'd win

Well...

Steve Hank, chief revenue officer of Texas athletics, told HornsDigest.com the 6 percent average increase (actually 5.7 percent, he said, but it was rounded up) was based on a formula that involved the value of each seat “spread across” the entire, 100,119-seat capacity of Royal-Memorial Stadium.

But when comparing exactly what football season ticket holders paid in 2014, including their contribution to the Longhorn Foundation to retain those tickets, to what they are paying in 2015, season tickets were increased an average of 21.5 percent.

Of the 57,233 season ticket holders in 2014, 59 percent (33,695) experienced a season ticket cost increase for 2015 of between 25 percent and 50 percent, records show.

A 20% increase in any stadium from one year to another (no matter what section) is absolutely insane....I don't even know what to call 50%.

It's the gouging I think they are upset about. Other than that I don't care. Let Tech and UT deal with.
