Apparently. But it depends on how many corpses there really are. If this was truly a rogue secretary helping a guy on a test he didn't need, then yeah we got screwed.

We need to just take our medicine and move on past this thing. We're appealing the recruiting and schollie sanctions that have the most potential to damage the program long-term. Getting some relief on those would be a huge win in my book. We never had a chance to get the post-season ban overturned on appeal.

Getting pissed and excoriating Turner, Hart, the Board, etc. on PF's is easy. We don't have to sit in their chairs, weigh all the factors, and make the hard-headed decisions about what's in the best interest of the program. This is a bad situation. There are no great options. Any decision they make is bound to upset someone. Right now they have to do their best to mitigate the damage and move the program forward long-term. I think they are doing that.

Not appealing the post-season ban may be emotionally unsatisfying, but I have yet to see a persuasive argument that the school blew it by not appealing that sanction.

I guess the talking points are out. You seem to think appealing is about winning or losing and it is not. The appeal is about delaying the ban until next year so the team can make a run in the tournament this year as ESPN noted. And yes, I know talking points are out on that as well. Let's be honest, they did it to mitigate loss of revenue in ticket sales and donations if the ban would have been pushed back to next year.

again I think an appeal would have been reasonable, but that's not a fair characterization of the multiple reasons SMU may have decided not to appeal. Just a few of the more prominent factors

Public perception and reputation of the university
Recruiting for 2016 and 2017 Classes
retention of undergraduates from transferring
chances for appellate success
Larry Brown's age and his desire to leave the program in good standing before he leaves
SMU's desire to get a return on the long term investment in Larry Brown
covering up Dead Bodies that remain all around this episode

Your failure to consider the importance of other factors really diminishes your criticism of the university

They don't care because they have a no refund policy. The reason I know that is because I called the ticket office to see what reactions they were getting after SMT said that some people were calling to get refunds and the said they have a no refund policy. They know if the ban was deyed until next year due to the appeal taking so long that many people would not renew and now they might even though the team may not be as good. It was more about money, the seniors were of no concern to them imo.

Or maybe they were concerned about next year's seniors?

The 1981 SMU SWC Championship football season in which SMU was on probation created life long happy memories for me I'll never forget. Hopefully, the Basketball team can do the same and all games will be on TV unlike in 1981. But its up to you...if you want to give up on the program

Yep, no TV was the cruelest I thought.

Fun memory: the next season when we were back on TV, a neighborhood friend/occasional bully came by. Since we had gotten into it the week before, I assumed he was coming by to bully again, interrupting my pals and I playing football outside or something. One thing led to another, we exchanged some more punches, then a couple bloody noses later he said "Well anyway I was coming over to tell you smu is on tv"

I think that there will be good crowds at the Michigan, Gonzaga, UConn, Memphis, and Cincinnati home games.
