From an "outside the SMU Bubble" perspective, if you fire a guy that took the team to 5 straight bowls after 25 years of hell just because he went 5-7 one season and flirted with other opportunities, you are going to look really, really stupid and have an impossible task to find someone to replace him. On top of that, the people in the CoC weren't willing to pony up the money to buy out his contract at that point.

The task of replacing June certainly wouldn't have been impossible since Morris would have definitely taken the job back then.

I think you also have to realize the CoC wasn't knocking down the door to buy him out. I think there are a lot of people who misinterpret living in reality with full-fledged support.

Except that we went to bowl games and won. Look, we weren't world beaters under June Jones. But you cannot deny the simple fact that his time here was all in all a success. It's ok to admit that. Here's hoping that Chad Morris takes us 10 times as far

Had success, not generally "A" success.

Unless you consider WW1 "A" success for Germany. Took on 3 world powers in a two front war. Beat the Russians. In far better shape than France or Britain at that point and could have won with the U.S. entering. Fewer casualties than the other side at wars end. Guess it was good for them just like June.
