The AD should create a schedule to realistically allow the coaches to get to 3-1 or 4-0 so the team does not have to go nearly undeafeated in conference play to make a bowl game. Why schedule Baylor, Texas Tech, etc. when they do not want us in their conference? Why do them any favors and be their whipping boys? Why are we playing Michigan? Money? We don't recruit in Michigan so the game is nothing more than an easy victory for them. I don't see much success going forward until the AD puts a non-conference schedule together to get the team to 3-1 or 4-0 going into conference play. Tired of the same old losing seasons with no hope for success. I am not the only one because the alumni, students, and the local community are not supporting the team with a losing record.

Until we start selling tickets for teams like JMU we have to play teams like A&M and Baylor at home in order to sell some tickets. We also have to play people like Michigan on the road to make up for our poor ticket sales at home. Its a classic catch 22

Memphis found the right coach, who built a team and pulled the upset. Good for them. But don't act like Memphis has been trying to build something, because they haven't. They happened to get the right guy in there who has it going on, and if they don't start trying to build something soon they will lose him like they lost Calipari.

From what I saw on TV yesterday it looked as if the Liberty bowl was packed primarily with Memphis fans which shocked me given its proximity to Oxford. Memphis fans showed up in droves. Yes, they will have to keep the momentum up if they want a consistently competitive program. They will lose Fuentes par for the course. Its why the next hire is so critically important for that program. I wish them well to tell you the truth. Its good for the aac and ultimately SMU if the Tigers build something up there.

There is no combination of division 1 opponents that would have made us 3-1 in non-conference play this year or last year. Give it up.

remember this thread right before Chad Morris' first signing date where "Johnny Utah" trashed Morris because he couldn't win any recruiting battles

I guess I'm confusing Johnny Utah with West Coast Johnny, the latter of which is a frog if I'm not mistaken

I disagree with this statement. And I disagree with the premise we need to be 3-1 in Nonconference. 2-2 would help.

James Madison is rated something like No. 85 on Sagarin and there are 3-4 other FCS teams ahead of that which means there are about 48 or so FBS teams rated below James Madison. It was pretty obvious to me that they are a good football team and their victory over SMU was no fluke

SMU Football does not have a bright future

Postby SMU Football Blog » Mon Oct 19, 2015 5:51 pm

When you think about how AWFUL SMU football has been since the DP and we have had 3 single win seasons in the last 10 years and an 0'fer and the last 15 years... Just know that even in that awful, awful time, since the demise of the SWC, we have averaged more than 3 conference wins a season. This was true pre-JJ by the way.

If we scheduled in non-conference the way our peers do, we would have likely gone to a bowl before 2009 and would have a few more winning seasons than we do.

I would think dropping the heavy weights until the program is up and running with better athletes then add the heavy weights back on the schedule. This program needs some wins and a bowl or two to attract the better athletes. JJ left Morris with kids that would struggle to play on a good 5A team. Just my 2 cents.
