What was that old joke about Darrell Royal being asked by a reporter what he thought of his team's execution?

John McKay, after his Tampa Bay Bucs lost a game recently. He was asked, “What do you think about the execution of your team?” McKay replied with a straight face. “I’m all for it.”

Read a little more....people were complaining that Navy was running up score. Just referencing how embarrassing it was when Notre Dame started not trying.

Reminds of the game in the 90s against Baylor who ran the ball EVERY single play. Not ONE pass. And blew us out. Geesh, this defense is god awful (understatement of the year). If the rebuild starts next year, it's going to take a while. I give it 4-5 years. And hope we can "outscore" some people in the meantime.

They ran out of bounds on a punt return . I would have much rather they had scored. It was very embarrassing .

I seem to recall Baylor (or was it TCU?) going for it on 4th down on our side of the field (rather than punting) when they were just outside of FG range...that was kind of low class I thought at the time. But yes...our defense stinks. If they can hold this recruiting class together, I think the D is competitive 2 years from now when HCCM's recruits are in their 2nd & 3rd years in the program. I don't think it will take 4-5 years because it will be easier on the defense when we have an offense that can match our opponent score for score and that could be the case in just 2 short years.

Good defensive coaching is not occurring. Even if you have crap players, a relentless coach, a insistant coach would make sure his players made decisions that put them in positions to make plays, even if they didn't have the physical ability to execute those plays. Sure, kids are stubborn, can be oppositional, forgetful, etc, but you will never convince me that a quality coach couldn't take even second-picking college players and teach them where to move on the field. We have HUGE assignment issues, even on a triple-option offense that has one basic set formation the entire game.

Answer this. If stopping the option is just as easy as positioning players where they should be, then why is any option offense ever successful? Believe it or not, sometimes better athletes beat worse athletes.
