95-20595-205. Remember that number.
That is SMU's record from 1989-2014 .316 How would this program be had it been the other way? 205-95? Would be .683. Decent program. Think about it whenever you ask why we only have 13,000 fans each game and not 26,000 or more.
Re: 95-205Well I guess that excuses our lousy attendance, no more discussion on the matter is necessary.

Re: 95-205The variety of the human species that goes to SMU is unique in that they innately hate the sport of football, or any sport whatsoever. It is in their blood. That is why attendance sucks.
Re: 95-205
I would have agreed... had basketball not proven that wrong.
Re: 95-205
Yadayadayada....more accurate number is about half that 13K. June had the team in 4 bowl games.....always some kind of excuse.
Re: 95-205
Yeah, that's why UNT is terrible and yet they have great attendance. ![]() Win more and more people will come. I don't understand why that's such a hard concept.
Re: 95-205Beat teams people have heard of and play an exciting brand of football...we have a chance to do that with Chad here. I called and called and had to practically beg someone to go to the Tulane game with me...if we're not winning then the casual SMU alum will find other ways to spend their Saturdays. NO ONE showed up at bball games in year one of Larry...within a few weeks we were the hottest ticket in town after beating UConn, Memphis, and Cincy.
Even though June had success here, the offense never took off and our record against winning teams was abysmal. The casual SMU alum isn't going to get excited about 7-6 seasons with wins over teams like SFA, Rice, and Tulsa. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: 95-205
Look at Miami- they won a National Championship and appeared in another NCG in the last 15 years and they have no one at their games in a P5 conference. Their biggest problem is no on campus stadium, but they suffer from some of the same problems we have- small alumni base and lots of competition for entertainment in a major city 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: 95-205
I can't help but wonder if Miami also has this unique shadow hanging over their program from being good for so long (1980-2000's). Or maybe its just a case of a spoiled fanbase. Yes, they're in the ACC, and yes they still occasionally beat FSU/UNC/VaTech, and yes they sometimes are ranked, but they are nowhere near dominant. For years, they were the only big time program in the southern half of Florida. 20-30 years ago, they didn't have decent FIU and FAU teams within 60 miles, not to mention USF and UCF also sucking up a lot of FL players, along with every other program in the ACC and SEC. Now, you can't watch a game, or hear an interview with a former player, or read a recruiting report without hearing "they just have to get that swagger back"..."get back to being THE U"..."it's all about the U". It's like their fans can't be happy with current success, and the fans aren't going to get back on board until they know "OK, we're back to being the best team in the country, THIS is the team I've been waiting to see." They could win 90% of their games, and people would still be whining about wanting to get back to those Jimmy Johnson/Butch Davis years. Sent from my Motorola brick.

I, for one, never think about that. I just go. It is what it is. Bush Library.
