Preparation is a two-way street. Not even the best motivators can motivate the unmotivatable

better players will make these coaches better. College game is about recruiting 1st and foremost. This staff was put together to bring better players in. Let's just hope they can get it done. If/when Morris builds the kind of programs they have at Houston and Memphis, we can expect to lose him to someone willing to write a bigger check and to give him the opportunity to compete for a national championship.

A bigger check and the chance to compete for a national title... If coaches realized they can go to a private school in Dallas and get paid $4M to $5M a year to win the AAC and go to the Cotton Bowl and have no pressure of getting fired on a down year..........maybe there wouldn't be an obsession to take these Maryland and Iowa State junk jobs with higher unrealistic expectations and lesser pay. There are only a handful of jobs that will ever have a shot at a national title (OU, Ohio st., Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Texas, USC etc.) so a low-mid tier P5 is actually a worse deal for a coach if you get paid more in a top G5 gig with lesser expectations. Job security at it's finest and only Gary Patterson figured it out. And NO, Kansas will NEVER get to play for a national title, and neither will Baylor, TCU, Tech, Washington State, Virginia, Oregon state, and the like.

So Stoops will get his shot this year, but Briles and Patterson will NEVER get their shot for some mysterious reason?

TCU and Baylor had an impeccable record last year and somehow an Ohio State squad with a horrible loss at home got the spot. There will always be an Ohio State, a Notre Dame, an Oklahoma and a USC eyeing a playoff spot that will never belong to a mid-low tier p5/g5.
