According to a report in SN Nation, the man who build the Roadrunners from scratch is reportedly moving on.

Bound to be a relief for him.

3. Larry Coker resigned from UT-San Antonio on Tuesday the same way that he coached throughout his career -- without fanfare. Coker, a career assistant, was thrust into the spotlight at Miami after Butch Davis took the Cleveland Browns job in 2001. Coker rode Davis's creation to the national title in 2001 and won his first 24 games with the Hurricanes. Coker went 58-41 the rest of the way at Miami and at UTSA, where he started the program from scratch. He will be remembered as a gentleman and a good coach, if not a great one. There are worse ways to be remembered.

That's a pretty accurate statement from what I've heard.

Guy almost had back to back to NC's excepting a horrendous call when playing ohio state.

Good to Great imo depending on the year and the talent he had to work with. They may have been BD's recruits but there is no guarantee Davis would have led that 2001 Miami team to the NC. Highly probable but it was Coker who got it done.

Unfortunately he was dissed as some sort of third rater by a spoiled Miami fan base. Yeah, he lost control of that program somewhat but his successors accomplished nothing with that program.

First class individual and well liked by his players.

UTSA Targets Rice Head Coach David Bailiff to Replace Larry Coker +

Add another name to the board after UTSA was granted permission to contact Rice Head Coach David Bailiff in regards to UTSA's open head coaching position. Despite surprising struggles in 2015, Bailiff has seen great success at Rice as he was named Conference USA Coach of the Year after guiding the Owls to a CUSA championship in 2013. Fox 26 sources have indicated that Bailiff has had contact with the UTSA administration at least once through the phone. We'll be back with more coverage if these talks seem to materialize into mutual interest.

I know Rice isn't a premier job, but I would assume that it is a "better" job than UTSA?

Of course, with no pro team (except the nearby Longhorns), San Antonio could be a future hot bead for college football.

If Rice loses a coach to UTSA, a school in their own conference, they should just drop to Division III

Rumored that he wanted to move home games to Little Rock. The major UTSA boosters, Big Enos and Little Enos Burdette opposed the move.

Actually I wanted the home games in San Antonio. I demanded all the away games be in Little Rock.
