Recruiting Questions

Postby Billy Joe » Wed Dec 21, 2005 7:15 pm

Does anyone have the answers to these questions?

1) How many top area players per the DMN does SMU have verbal committments from to date?

2) How many top state players per the DMN does SMU have verbal committments from to date?

3) How many Division 1-A does SMU expect to receive for next season compared to TCU?

4) How many recruits has SMU offered this year that have accepted scholarships to N. Texas, La. Tech, or Tulsa?

5) How many JUCO players has SMU offered this season (not including the 2 recent JUCO commits)?

6) When PB was hired didn't he say his recruiting focus was going to be on the D/FW area? What happened?

Thanks to those who know the answers.

What? Is there a question in there?

Here's one more question: How many ways can you think of to stir the pot among loyal PonyFans when six weeks remain before a class is complete, thereby making your questions nothing more than undue negativity?

1) 0
2) 0
3) You left out a noun, but I think the answer is 13 recruits for next year.
4) 1. 1 QB to LT. An Athelete had committed to Tulsa, but he is taking visits again, so they pulled their offer.
5) Rivals shows 7, including the two commits. Of those, Johnson the QB is still available.
6) Bennett does want to recruit DFW. He hasn't given up on it. Not much to do with 13 scholarships. Winning cures cancer.

The problem is NOT that we are targeting nobodys and not getting them. We are targeting high rated players and losing them to BCS schools, for the most part. Rivals shows us having offered 32 players. 11 are still available, and we have 4 committments. Of the remaining 17 players, 15 of those chose BCS schools. We lost a JUCO to LT, and a JUCO to SJS.

We set our sights pretty high and have come out... well, worse than desired. I like the commits we have, I just wish we had more. It is going to be interesting to see how things fall out for the rest of the year. Keep in mind - Haywood committed 1/9 last year, Powell 1/9, Makinde on 2/2. Of the HS players, Givens 1/25, Willis 1/18, and those were two of our better recruits.

Have we ever missed out completely on both the DMN State 100 and Area 100? With the exception of 87-88 for obvious reasons, I don't think that has ever happened, has it?

All those Bennett rumors didn't help recruiting early (getting fired) or after the three game win streak (leaving for KSU).

I thought Copelands contract extension was supposed to kill that.

Extension was before midseason rumors of his being canned.

Actually, I think the noun left out was "transfers". "How many Division 1-A transfers does SMU expect to receive for next season compared to TCU?" The answer is probably zero due to difficulty in getting course credits transfered to SMU. An area that really needs more work to be done to make credit transfers easier.

I meant transfers. I have a wireless keyboard that does not always translate ehat I type. I believe it would help SMU be more competitive if they would allow more credits to transfer. It does not seem like we have an equal chance for recruits with TCU, N. Texas, Tulsa, La. Tech, and Houston. I guess that is why we always lose to those schools and have not been to a bowl game in almost twenty years. I wish Copeland was fired. He really sucks.

Makes sense to me, waive the academic requirements of a university to win football games. Honestly, pull your head out of your [deleted] and understand what college is supposed to be about.

Another brilliant statement considering we beat Houston and TCU this year, didn't play N.Texas (we will find out that one next year) and beat Tulsa just last year.
