Crowd was pathetic!!!Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Crowd was pathetic!!!I received an email twice last year because both of my tickets were not scanned for a game. To suggest the ticket office only cares if they sell the tickets is not true. It is definitely job #1 but they also want the people to show up.

Re: Crowd was pathetic!!!As far as The Mob goes, the simple fact is that for it to be good, you need rowdy fans who are drinking (i.e. Fraternity and Sorority members). The athletic department needs to go back to the system used the first year, or just make it a bidding war for Mob tickets. The current system keeps out the fans you would want, because most of us don't have the time or desire to go to a bunch of random events to accumulate points. We simply have better things to be doing with our social life. Only way I was able to get Mob this year was by going to the random events, swiping in then promptly leaving. This accomplished nothing (still wasn't in attendance at the random events like the athletic department wants) and most people wouldn't put in this kind of effort. This is the same with my friends who also did this, and we are the only ones who are ever drinking in the section. Every one else is dead sober, and therefore, quite lame during the games.
Re: Crowd was pathetic!!!Solve the problem by forcing people to stand in line. If you go out of your way to stand in line, you have made enough of an investment that you make sure you go to the game. Simple solution.
Re: Crowd was pathetic!!!A few thoughts:
SMU does not have the resources to monitor who is using their seats and who isn't and I doubt whether the software has been set up to track this (although I agree this is almost certainly possible), but I think that in the case of the big-money seats, they see the point in following up as they can resell the tickets themselves and make more money, in larger chunks. I think that is the motivation there. They do not call me when I don't use my seats, but I would not expect them to. The idea that "atmosphere" is linked to alcohol consumption is an interesting one. I think there is no question that selling alcohol greatly improves the sense of the crowd being there as part of a "night out" and helps the vibe (and the competition with other pro-sports) but the idea that we want the type of students that get hammered is going a little far. And this is coming from someone who has disgraced himself at SMU sporting events in the past (for those at the 1st and 10 for the Tech game in 2010? I apologize). Fan involvement in the game is the key thing. Watching the student section is (for many reasons) always entertaining, but I don't see a link between drunk and involved, just drunk and loud. Loud is good, but loud and not watching the game makes me indifferent. I think this will all change as we grow the culture, but we want the students who care, not just the ones who are there for different, non-basketball related, reasons. There is a lot of movement in and out of the stands during games, but I suppose that is common here with all the breaks in play, but I sit near some folks who I would estimate spend less than 50% of the game (where they are there) in the seats watching. Re: Crowd was pathetic!!!Good post, Mustangsbu. The students really need a mob leader. Someone who organizes chants and gets things started. Our posters with a Duke connection can probably speak to this better as I'm sure they have something like this at Cameron. I've noticed the students this year seem like they want to get loud but there's no organization. Some type of leadership could solve that.

Re: Crowd was pathetic!!!
Seems that we used to see greek letters in the stands and we no longer do. Is that prohibited now? Used to be that pledges were "strongly encouraged" to go to the games as a group and wear their letters. They usually were the loudest. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Crowd was pathetic!!!Easy fix - go back to the camping out method for Mob tix. If you are willing to sleep overnight on concrete then you'll be a good fan, drunk or not.

Re: Crowd was pathetic!!!Used to fraternities/sororities could get free tix and force pledges to attend one game. There aren't available tickets to do that anymore. One of those good problems to have.

Re: Crowd was pathetic!!!Next game, I was planning to wear my puppy monkey baby outfit to up my game for second half free throw disruption; however, Mrs. 2nL does not support me wearing adult diapers out with her in public. I thought it would have been romantic for valentines day weekend, so I'll have to come up with something else.

Re: Crowd was pathetic!!!
People on this board always complained when people were wearing shirts with Greek letters and not red and blue SMU shirts. Peruna is my mascot!

Re: Crowd was pathetic!!!
I have a hard time believing someone would complain about a wardrobe malfunction unless it was mine.
Re: Crowd was pathetic!!!proof is in the pudding. It's simply louder when fraternities are involved. Drunk or not.
