Hey...we all knew the day would come when we'd be "Godfatherless." But nobody could have predicted it would be this way. Regardless of the huge negatives associated with the LB years, all well documented here, he brought us to a place we've not been.

And frankly, we all friggin' love that.

So let's put on our big boy pants and admit that change in inevitable.

We'll be fine with Jank....different....but fine.

Will he recruit Mudiays, Fraziers, Kapitas and Fernandos? Maybe not. Other teams do just fine without
high risk, school-averse can't miss pro prospects.

Jank was responsible for Nic f'kin Moore people. He opened the Aussie pipeline and he's far more capable of running a clean, vibrant college program than LB. The players love and respect him. All he lacks is the reputation. (positive AND negative) No biggie.

My only real regret here is that because of the way it went down there is little to no chance that LB stays on in a different capacity. My dream scenario was to keep LB as the face of the program and as paid consultant as Jank took the head spot. Best of both worlds. Don't see that happening now.

What I do see happening is continued success and relevance for our hoops program with an improvement on the scholar-athlete end.

I'll most likely run into LB up here in town soon. When I do I'll thank him for making something relevant out of total bupkes.

That is all.

Has any media member taken Larry's side that SMU should give a coach who was going to be 76 at tip-off a 5 or 6 year guaranteed contract? I think I'm up to about 6 stories criticizing Brown and calling his demand ridiculous especially in the context of the Show Cause order, the probation and the APR. I think SMU made a reasonable offer.

No, I haven't seen any. I think Seth Davis did a really good job with his article.

No one said this transition was going to be easy. Should have happened next year or after 17-18 season. That's the breaks. Larry is pulling a Larry. Not bashing him...he revitalized a program like few could. His star power drew players and fans in faster than we could have hoped with any other hire. But, that's gone. He's gone. He chose to leave, choose to walk out on the players he previously stated were his #1 concern. He chose a path he knew would lead to issues and ignored the APR impact. And he chose to make this public at the worst time possible (seemingly without even engaging his agent, a very odd and emotional act).

There's no reason to cry or lash out. This isn't JJ. We move on and forward with his named successor taking the reigns. The players seem to be moving on already based on reports, and the staff is doing so as well. It will be a test and a challenge, but I believe we have the players and staff leadership to pass it and meet the challenge.

Which leaves the last remaining test to discuss, and Maury wants Football Dad's kids to know that their dream at a successful life is closer now than ever before because the results are in and...he is NOT the father. Insert Maury victory dance by relieved mom here and fade to commercial.

Larry is gone, big mistake, end of story. I'll remind you again when the 2017 recruiting results are in.

Best case scenario SMU basketball future is middle of the pack AAC, with very limited AAC championship and NCAA tourney prospects. Best prospects this year, then the fade begins.

The new normal. Mediocrity, much like yourself.

Really sad to see his tenure end this way. He brought us back from oblivion.
Seems like SMU always manages to shoot itself in the foot somehow and this seems so typical.

It will be interesting to see how Jank performs this next season and how his recruiting goes next year.
I hope that our bball program doesn't take a step back. We need to win the AAC tourney next year and get to the big dance and we have the talent to do it.

The last vestige of June Jones is now gone. One would think everyone would be celebrating.

Half the media and some on this board never thought LB would make it to the first game - much less four years on the bench. Let's say thanks and move on with Jank. And hope we avoid an APR ban because that would blow.

And yes, every article in the college basketball world has pretty much slammed LB for the way he left.

Your point is well-taken - I share the same view -it's all downhill from here. But no need to cry over spilled milk. Gotta move on with Jank and hope the recruiting intensity is maintained.

I have to disagree. Jank can coach, he can recruit better than LB did, and the kids like playing for him. This may be an interesting year. Listening to some of the interviews about what all is going on, I think he is ready for this. He has known that this day would show up, and I think he is ready for it.

The last few years with Larry have been the most fun I've had as an SMU fan since before the death penalty. Did we get into hot water with the NCAA? Of course we did and we will always draw their attention when we win until we have an administration that is willing to stand up to their bullying.

In the mean time, we have some talent on the court and winning begets winning. Jankovich is a sound guy and deserves the chance. He won't be the darling of the talking heads on the networks like Larry, but hopefully his won-loss record will speak for him. I already miss you Coach Brown but I can't wait to see if your legacy of winning will take hold here.

LMAO! Back to the cellar. Congrats SMU!! The greatest 3 year run in your program history resulted in ONE NCAA tournament game. How cute.
