Basketball school

Re: Basketball school
Let's do a run down. Georgetown, DePaul, Marquette, Villanova, Xavier, Butler, Gonzaga. All either have no football team or FCS teams, yet are on the map because of basketball. Add in UVA, Duke, UNC, Kansas, Wake Forest, Kentucky and Maryland (none of whom are world beaters in football historically) are on the map because of hoops. Now which of these schools are more like SMU? All of them except perhaps Kentucky, Maryland and Kansas. And perhaps by building hoops, we can be enough of a brand name that like WVA and Louisville, we can get ourselves into a P5 conference despite mediocre football (add in perhaps Maryland), and build up that program.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Exactly.
Re: Basketball school
Good thought east. Just dont want our fans to forget about football and leave it in the second plane.
Re: Basketball school

Re: Basketball school
I expect that any P5 conference expansion not including SMU will be a defining moment with regards to our football future. One has to wonder how long our big money supporters of fball will continue their support when we no longer have the chance to be a 'real' player in a major conference.
As has been pointed out, perhaps fcs fball and major support/success in bball is our future role.

Love the people that don't give money or go to games complaining

Donate to MC, buy football and bball season tickets, do what you can to support the program.

Re: Basketball school
We should definitely put more of an emphasis on basketball.
64 teams make March Madness. 4 teams make Football playoffs.
More parity in basketball.
We shouldn't neglect football, but basketball is the key to relevancy for SMU. We have an easier time being noticed for basketball than football.

SMU is a great school. It is not a Vandy, Rice, Emory, Duke by any stretch of the imagination. All of whom have legitimate claims on the phrase "Harvard of the South".
Eaststang makes a good point but I think SMU should focus on Ping Pong.
