Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16The ones that have been around a long time and continue to blame Turner do so because looking in the mirror is too painful. As Stallion has said repeatedly, we have the athletic department we deserve. If we want better, more of us need to step up to the plate.
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16MustangXC...hmm. So, for example, we deserve equestrian and rowing instead of top 5 men's track / football pipeline?
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16
Ouch. This.
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16
I have been a SMU fan so long that I remember seeing Lance McIlhaney play QB for HP as a freshman. I have been through highs and lows and more lows followed by even more lows followed by Junesus. Mex's obsession with Turner & Hart is tired. I am waiting for him to blame Turner for the Death Penalty. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16I think the Tennis and Swimming center before the IPF was a dumb move too.
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16
Or the people who saw Turner at the Tulsa and Cincy away basketball games. Just cannot figure out why a guy who hates sports would make those trips.
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16
Quit acting like a child!
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16Really looking forward to the season now. Long time since last fall. Thinking positive about this team!!
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16Did CM say anything about uniforms and, Liberty and Justice ?
Smustatesman aka NUKE......I procreate and I vote.
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16
First our alumni got too involved instead of letting our officials in the athletic department do their jobs which led to the death penalty. Then, they let our football program die a slow death by not pressing our administration for more. Equestrian and rowing were needed in order to stay compliant with Title IX. If we had successful football and basketball programs we would have the funds necessary to cover the expenses for men's track and field. I still believe we should have cut men's swimming or men's soccer instead of Track, but that's another story. Trust me, I don't enjoy having to say this as I am a cross-country and track letterman and was on the last cross-country team SMU fielded.
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16
That had to be done due to poor planning. The insanity was tearing down Turpin Tennis Stadium only to move it down a little only to tear it down and build the current tennis facility. The swimming facility had deteriorated to a point where we needed to either build a new facility or cut both the men's and women's teams. Truly, if we didn't have such prolonged incompetence surrounding our football program for such a long time no one would be complaining about these facilities because we would be in a P5 conference with money to spare. It's funny how so many stood around for so long and only recently had a fire lit inside them and expect success overnight.
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16
Complete and Total BS BS Over the past 30 years, out of 116 schools, only 7 F'in schools have a lower winning % than SMU. Temple, Idaho, Nevada Las Vegas, Eastern Michigan, Kent, Buffalo and New Mexico State. THAT'S IT...PERIOD Look at all the advantages SMU has over the overwhelming majority of most schools that play D1-A. You cannot find 1 single school in a better location than SMU, not 1 single school. And yet we are complete failures. 0-52-1 against Big 12 South opponents, you kidding me?????? This is all on RGTurner. All of it. Not the coaches, not the fans, not the alumni. Turner. He has been at this school for over 20 years. The Buck Stops With HIM. Look in the mirror my [deleted]. XC, name me 1 school with a school enrollment below 15,000 that has gone through the ineptitude that SMU has for 30 F'in years whose alumni would still give a damn. I'm waiting for your response to that simple question. Name 1 school....YOU CAN'T.
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16
Exactly, we as alumni have let this go on way too long! We as alumni got serious when we hired June Jones which only partially worked out.
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16and the eating of our own continues….
The truth is in the middle. Anyone who has been around Turner knows he loves sports and wants us to excel - and wants a P-5 status. It is also true that some meaningful percentage of the blame lays at his feet. Way too much time hob nobbing with CUSA and AAC higher ups instead of positioning us to get out to something better. He was behind adding Tulsa and Tulane which was a mistake. He thought he had it done with Big East - that ended up being cruel for all of us. Like giving a starving man a steak and pulling it away. Everyone looked the other way and didn't want to believe the June's laziness would catch up with us - should have taken action two years earlier. It is not due to lack of passion or interest that we are not in a P-5 - but it could be due to wrong moves at the wrong time.
Re: Luncheon tomorrow 8/16I think the AAC would be better overall had we stayed at 10, played a round robin and not added Tulsa and Tulane.
