If a recruit is swayed or impressed in some way by a message board (any school`s board) then that recruit has some issues..........in the history of recruiting have you ever seen a quote, in print, that the recruit chose or turned down that school because of the fan message board..........

And for the record, I wrote about the program and not about the team. I am able to discern a difference.

Why would you say that? When you apply for a job or when you are offered a job, don't you use every avenue available to you to find out what that place is like or all about before making your decision? I don't see many quotes from recruits as to why they do or do not chose a particular school...but are you willing to risk turning some recruit off just because you have not seen a quote stating that the attitude, etc. found on a fan board was a factor in their decision?

What the kids are looking for is:

1. Can I play here early? (yes)
2. Can I get a good education? (yes)
3. Can I go to a bowl game? (No guarantee at this time, but things are looking up)
4. Can I go to a BCS Bowl? (Probably not in your time but we sure would like you to help us get to that possibility)
5. Women? (the best)
6. Future employment? (definitely)
7. Pro Football possibility? (based on history slim, but that is due to talent not the school)
8. Weather? (good, great if you like hot)
9. Coaches (Promising and dedicated)
10. Will coaches be here my full time? (No one can promise that due to the fact the good ones leave and the bad ones are let go. Who wants to be mediocre)
11. Fan support? (poor, but you could help change that)
12. History (Best of the best and worst of the worst, Doak Walker to the Death Penalty, Kyle Rote to silent Saturdays. Eric Dickerson, Craig James, Jerry Levias, Chuck Hixson, to no games being played)

Nowhere in any of my list do I have room for what a kid would care is written on a message board. If you have a problem with anything that is posted on the board please refer to my previous post and just inform the kids that the negative poster is actually a plant from those nasty Longhorns or Aggies or even a Toad. If they believe what the poster said they should believe what you say.

Yeah...that made a real impression on me. It is probably a good thing you went into the legal profession and not marketing.

Why would you say that? When you apply for a job or when you are offered a job, don't you use every avenue available to you to find out what that place is like or all about before making your decision? Yes, use all avenues, but gossip, really.............and i am not trying to turn anyone away...great school....great academics....great city.....program is turning.......i think they know that or can figure it out pretty quick......and yes i do see a lot of quotes on why they chose........i will take the impervious recruit any time over the other.........

So you think the program is smelling better? You as a well educated, distinguished lawyer may be able to discern the difference...but an 18 year-old recruit??

So now what JT posted was "gossip? Why do you think the posts on a fan board would not influence a recruit when the "grown ups" posting on these boards would probably be in a fist fight with each other if they were actually face to face saying what each has posted. We generally tend to take each other pretty seriously on here. Why wouldn't a recruit?

Let's forget for the moment JT's reference to stinking. What about the posts made by others labeling the coach as no good or a lousy recruiter or any of the other derogatory remarks made about the things Mrydel has listed above as important to recruits. We tend to do a lot of that on here as well.

I never thought when I made my posts in this thread that I would change anyone's mind, but I felt it needed to be said all the same. Do as you wish...as though I could stop you anyway.

I promise that what I post will be true and accurate to the best of my information. If SMU is forced to sign a 6-0 JUCO Platoon QB who runs a 4.95's and received ZERO Division 1A scholarship offers in the last recruiting season because the coaching staff was not allowed to get the real prospects they wanted into school then let me assure you I am going to heap torrents of criticism upon the school.

I promise what you post will be what has been reported, and I'm not chiding you at all for that. That's of value to all of us. However, every now and then, a guy will run a slow 40 and it's never reported that he had a sprained ankle or a stomach flu or the field was under water that day or .... you get the drift. I think a large part of what you report turns out to be mostly accurate. But if a recruit (JUCO or high school) presents information that differs from what's been reported, I hope it's an improved version.

The reason we take each other seriously on here is that we are all bound by a desire to see SMU improve its lot in life. And I would not want to fistfight with anybody who shares that philosophy with me. But this thread is not about improving SMU, it is about controlling what we can say about SMU under the guise of helping Phil Bennett recruit. I for one do not think he needs my help.

Bottom line: if this board is being used by recruits to decide where they want to go to college, then mrydel is right, we should be on the Longhorn board bashing Mack Brown and getting his recruits to come to SMU. Now, I ask you, how ridiculous a concept is that?

So you go do your dream job interview and hear what the administrative assistants (if negative) are saying about the boss, or you see bad statements written on the bathroom wall.. are you going to hightail it out of there..............

And no, we do not need to talk to each other as if we want to fistfight...for the most part, the passion on here towards SMU is very intense...

I am sorry but WHEN are guys going to realize that all stallion knows is what he reads on Rivals PERIOD! And you know what, Rivals is not always correct, but he thinks they are PERFECT with their information. I personally don't care what stallion thinks, we are going to get who Phil and the coaching staff wants and if they think they can play, they will take them, if he doesn't, we won't.
