Perry's Double-Double Leads SMU To 75-63 Win At Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. (SMU) – Kiara Perry scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds for her third career double-double to lead the SMU women's basketball team to a 75-63 victory at Kansas. SMU and first-year head coach Travis Mays improved to 2-0 with the program's first win at Kansas in four road games against the Jayhawks.

SMU scored the first 15 points of the game, holding the Jayhawks (0-2) scoreless through the first 5:26. Morgan Bolton scored seven of her 13 points during the run. SMU shot 62.5 percent in the first quarter making 10 of 16 field goals, to lead 25-11 after the first 10 minutes.

The Mustangs held Kansas a 15.8 shooting percentage, going 3-for-19 from the field in the first quarter, and the Jayhawks only made 13 field goals in the first three quarters. SMU led by 22, 74-52, with 4:04 remaining in the game, but Kansas hit back-to-back 3-pointers to spark an 11-0 run, cutting the lead to 11 with 2:16 to play. SMU held the Jayhawks scoreless the rest of the way to hold on for the victory.

Perry was one of four Mustangs to score at least 10 points. Bolton got to 13 on 3-of-5 shooting, while Alicia Frolingwent 5-for-12 for 16 points and had 10 rebounds for her 22nd career double-double and the second of the season. McKenzie Adams was 3-for-6 from behind the arc, scoring 15 points in the win.

SMU out-rebounded Kansas 52-42, and the Mustangs had 10 blocks as a team, with Froling and Klara Bradshaweach recording three. The Mustangs finished the game with a 43.3 shooting percentage, going 26 for 60, while holding Kansas to 20 field goals on 68 attempts, 29.4 percent.

The Mustangs play at TCU Sunday at 2 p.m. before returning to Moody Coliseum to host Prairie View A&M at 5:30 p.m.
