As an SMU fan I love the hire for that very reason. I think we will be able to beat Baylor for recruits while we have Chad Morris and they have an outsider.

mustangxc wrote:Yes, I was also stunned. I hope he is getting over $20 million because it is pretty much career suicide, but then again Scott Drew took over the basketball program under more dire circumstances without any history of success and has had amazing success.

Scott Drew only had to recruit 5 guys, even 1 can carry a season. We are the poster child for how quick basketball can be turned around. And the poster child for how long it takes to turn a football program around when your coach stops recruiting or you don't have 2 recruiting classes.

I don't like the hire for Baylor as he's going to have a tough time recruiting, especially for the top kids. And I hope they give him at least 5 years. The next 2-3 will be rough for sure.

I am happy Anderson stays at Arkansas State. They have earned some stability. What I heard was that Oregon was also after Rhule. If true, Baylor must have opened the vault.

Feel bad for the Temple poster that visits the site. He was sympathetic that we were losing Morris and just as sure that Rhule was solid at Temple.

Who turns down Oregon (and Nike money) for Waco?

That would seem odd unless they were offering cheap and Baylor offering over the top.

If he was offered the same as Morris then it's a fivefold increase in salary, before the no-state income tax thing kicks in. Hope he likes Waco.

Their recruiting class for '17 is done, save a couple of JUCO's and east coast kids. Completely different style of play, too, from what I can tell - be interesting to see if anybody else transfers out.

The Baylor Soap Oprah begins it's next chapter.

perhaps lower expectations and longer runway at Baylor than Oregon. Heck the Ducks fired Helfrich who before this year was 33-8 in 3 years.

He was passed over by Maryland, Rutgers, Missouri, and Syracuse among others so I don't know which teams you are talking about in which he could do better. I guess he figured since he was passed over so much that he would give Baylor a try.

I wonder how that east coast accent is going to go with recruits in Texas.

Temple is State-related, which is a form of public-private hybrid (Penn State, Pitt, and Lincoln University also are set up this way)
