One of their metrics takes into account numerous factors including game results, margin of victory, pre season rankings, BPI, Ken Pom, etc...They said SMU has a 50/50 chance to make sweet 16 while 6 seed Maryland has about a 17% chance. Maryland very over seeded according to the analytics. U Cincy has a 26% chance to make sweet 16.

If we get that far, from an analytics perspective, SMU-Duke and SMU-Nova are very, very interesting matchups that could break either way.

Agreed. Underseeding a teams impacts not just them but also other teams in their bracket. Dayton is a 7 seed but is a 6 point underdog to 10 seed Wichita State. I imagine both teams are not happy with Wichita State's seed.
