I do not believe that this Malone is related to Karl, after a quick search. But, his daughter Cheryl Ford did play for La Tech and at Moody when we were in the WAC. Malone and several members of the Utah Jazz were on hand for one of Cheryl's games at SMU when the Jazz were in town to play the Mavericks. That would've been somewhere between 2001-2003.

They really dominated the game and had they not sleep-walked through the 4th with about 10 TO's they would have won by 20 or 25. I hope we beat IU at their place.
