New Names For Figuring Scholarship NumbersHave heard that three players who walked on last year have been given scholarships. One has already been discussed on this board -- Joseph Ferguson, a 6'2" 205 receiver who transferred from Northwestern. Another is punter Thomas Morstead, 6'4" 190 from Pearland, TX. Last is DB Paul Hiemenz, 6'2" 190 from Wichita, KS.
Also heard that our coaches are very high on all three.
Re: New Names For Figuring Scholarship Numbers
is that legal?
Re: New Names For Figuring Scholarship NumbersOf course it is legal...it is the dream of every walk on. What it does though is reduce the number of scholarships available for recruiting...come August 1st, you can only have 85 guys on scholarship. Usually this is not too much of a problem due to attrition of players on scholarship who flunk out, get pissed and transfer or have career ending injuries although I think we usually keep injured guys on scholarship or at least we have in the past.
Re: New Names For Figuring Scholarship NumbersAnyone know anything about this guy? I've never heard of him. Was he on the roster last season?
Well, we know who the punter is next year. Obviously, we are not giving a scholarship to a walkon that we don't intend to play, and we are not giving more than one scholarship to punters.

Re: New Names For Figuring Scholarship Numbers
That's funny right there... so is the name Paul Hiemenz, assuming it is pronounced improperly.
