My observation:

our last 2 HCs have been considered Offensive Gurus, but the truth is we haven't recruited an elite (by non-P5 standards) QB in over a decade.

We were very fortunate with the GG transfer.

Realize CM has put in the effort, but results haven't materialized.

I really am liking what I see from Quinn. Not only does he seem to have very soft hands when catching, he seems to be one of the stronger receivers we have had after the catch. Has had two mean stiff arms both games.

yep both Sutton and Quinn have physically manhandled DBs this year-just get them the ball

I really liked the situation(s) Morris inserted Gillins last nite. Very appropriate since we needed a boost to the running game to try to go 2 TDs up before half. Then I thought he made the right call in bringing Hicks back in a time management situation with about 18 seconds with no TOs-andHicks hit Sutton for the TD with :10 left in the half. There's a zero percent chance that Morris is going to start an inexperienced QB against a Gary Patterson defense but he can utilize Gillins in certain running situations and I'm sure he will continue to integrate him into the offense. But he's not going to add Gillins if it means deemphasizing Sutton/ Quinn/Proche

There are definitely gripes to make in multiple areas (QB and OL at the top of that list), but just think of the things that we now almost take for granted:

1. The defensive line will consistently get pressure.
2. The punt returner will consistently catch the ball.
3. The punt will consistently go more than 40 yards down field
4. People actually usually tackle their man instead of letting him slip through their fingers.
5. We have a legitimate shut down corner
6. Receivers actually catch the ball even if it's contested
7. Our guys take care of the ball on offense and don't fumble much (exception is QB and his occasional errant throws)

Boy I do not take 40 plus yard punts as a given. I think our punting game is still a mess and will cost us points vs TCU. Agree with the rest. Definitely progress, it just may not be so obvious next week. Everyone batten down the hatches.

I have been very impressed with our punt game this year. 100% better than last year. Good average and I do not think more than one has been returned.

I am still not pleased with kickoff coverage.

In my first draft I said 20 yards so I'm a little squishy on that too. 20 just seemed so sad to promote as a good thing...

I am hoping to see more of the "pooch" kickoffs to about the 30 yard line - especially against faster/better KO return units like the froggies

Yes. Or just kick it out of bounds.

I think our punter has a bunch of kicks inside the 20 and very little return yards. (actually 5 Inside the 20 and ZERO Touchbacks) Only 4 yards per punt return with a long of 12. Averaging over 40 per punt and probably about 39 net punting. The days of the booming traditional punter are over in College Football. Its about directional punting, ball placement, net punting and no returns. Sackville gets at least a B+ so far-arguably an A-

I get that it can be effective (net net) - but he also had a 30 yard blooper in there as well. Just doesn't seem as consistent as we need to be. Also I worry about a good rush not allowing him run time which is the key to not getting the return. If he gets rushed hard (like last year) the whole concept falls apart.

Give me the boomers with the automatic fair catch any day.

Anybody heard from Mixon? The rest of our D line is showing promise - has anybody noticed him yet?
