We just need one quality win in OOC and don’t drop any ugly games and we will be in good shape come Conference.

I liked how the team fought/played defensively and I thought outside of Shake and Chargois offensively the other guys played pretty good games. Shake just wasn’t hitting tonight. This will be a way different team come Conference play. With all the scoring droughts, being outrebounded, our shot by about 10% points and our star guard shooting under 30% we had a shot to tie with under 20 secs left agaisnt a high quality mid-major opponent. Says a lot about how hard we fought and played defensively which is good news, because reinforcements are coming.

I disagree with all the Whitt bashing. He wasn’t great, but he played fine. He didn’t cost us the game. He hit some good shots and made some good passes. All of our guards struggled driving into the lane and turning it over or making sloppy passes out this game. I agree their style of D isn’t a good matchup for Whitt, but considering I thought he played just fine.

Would hope that the team would have more than just one quality OOC win.

Yes, we could easily have pulled this out. So many were shooting poorly.

But, Whitt did not play well. His groundbreaking method of picking up his dribble in traffic then scanning aimlessly before distributing the ball to no one was impressive. He managed to kill offensive momentum at an impressive rate. He somehow had his finger on the pulse of the game, driving into double coverage when we traditionally kick it out, then paint it to a doubled shake when Ray was open in the paint. Completely lack any confidence with him handling the ball in a close game after the first 5 of the season.

I actually thought Whitt played pretty well. He drove to the basket which creates space and he hit some decent mid range shots. Foster is still finding his way.

We need this win. UNI is a good program, but we should have won this game.

Logic says a good conference campaign and one OOC win should be enough. History says you're an idiot if you think that resume isn't going to give the committee an excuse to overlook us. We needed this game, and now need a very good showing against Arizona (who are going to be angry and go for a blow out to prove a point) and must win the final.

When he did drive to the basket, we was as likely to turn the ball over as he was to score. Now, if he was the only one on the team playing well and no one was making the cuts or in position to get the ball...my bad. I definitely saw a lot of that... standing around being guarded vice getting open, but Whitt was often guilty of being that one who dribbled too much and held the ball to long, killing momentum.

Might as well set the expectation tomorrow: don’t let Zona blow us out like Navy did to the football last year...

Well, seems some are happy with a football caliber 1/2 game of effective defense, so it seems lowered expectations are contagious.

I don’t think anyone is happy, but you can still take positives out of things like see we didn’t quit and played good D in the 2nd that got us back into the game and gave us several chances to win. That is a good sign going forward. That’s a game we should never lose, but we did. We aren’t going to win much agaisnt good teams if Shake is 5-19 (1-7).

To sum it up they were both wearing Northern Iowa gear but unfortunately one is actually a first-year student at SMU what? just drove me crazy. Plus she was twerking all the way over

I wouldn’t say never lose because they had more pure shooters than we had and they outrebouned us by 10. Like to see what kind of offense we have when McMurray and Shake are on the floor at the same time.

Totally agree.

But it’s a question of expectations. Granted the committee gives us nothing. We’ll have to earn even a first four slot. I see this as a re-build year at this point. I still think we are capable of third or fourth in conference (Temple). Agau and McMurray might help and actually help us get there but reamember: Both of them will have a learning curve in Jank’s system as well. This gonna take some time.

Our bigs had 3 rebounds, Chargois had 0. Our point guard rebounded the best.

This is going to be a rough year. I have no faith in Akoy, I hope I’m proved wrong. This is his third school with limited minutes. Our freshman guards look like they are transfer candidates by the end of the year with the way they are playing. We may not even be an NIT team if we don’t have better output by the bigs.

I’m not sure what quality win we can get with the talent that we have. I love Shake but he still struggles on drives to finish, so when he isn’t hitting jumpers his game will struggle. The team played tentative. Reminded me of the last possession against USC during the tournament.

I chalk it up to recruiting, next year we will better in terms of our bigs. Our recruiting is very flawed. This is the year the sanctions really hurt us.

Shake needed to step up last night and he didn't. Missed so many easy open looks it was incredible. We made UNI look good.
