Several changes for Arthur

A new leader has emerged in the recruitment for Darrell Arthur, the 6-foot-9, 220-pound power forward from South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, Texas. With the news that Mike Davis is going to step-down as head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers, Arthur, the No. 19 ranked player in the class of 2006, is no longer interested in the Big Ten program.

"I probably won't be going to Indiana now that it looks like Coach Mike Davis is going to resign," said Arthur. "Kansas, Baylor and SMU are th! e schools that I am looking at now. Connecticut, Oklahoma and Texas are starting to show some interest as well.

"I don't know if I will be taking any additional visits or not," he added. "I still need to talk to my coach about that. I am still planning to take an unofficial visit to Kansas before the end of the year, but nothing has been planned yet. I need to talk to my high school coach about that."

After taking official visits to North Carolina, Indiana, Kansas, SMU and Baylor, there was a time when it looked like Arthur, the No. 4 ranked power forward in the class, would sign a Letter-of-Intent during the early period.

However, after talking with his family and coaches, Arthur decided to wait until the late period. Many close to the situation believed Indiana would eventually be the team to beat because of Arthur's relationship with Coach Davis.

It appears that Davis is going to step-down as head coach of the Hoosiers, as a press conference has been sc! heduled for later on today. Because of this recent development, a new leader has emerged in the recruitment for Arthur.

"Yes, Kansas and Baylor are probably my top two schools," said Arthur. "Actually, KU is the leader right now. KU is at the top of my list. I really like the coaching staff at Kansas and they are cool with the players.

"I also like KU because they have good freshman and they are playing good ball right now," he added. "I feel that I could come in next year and produce a little bit for Kansas."

Darrell Arthur Scouting Report: Very athletic, Arthur has the size and skill base as well to be a combo forward at the highest level. Capable of dominating the glass, Arthur can, however, play too passive at times. -Jerry Meyer

Time to move on - who is next on our list? He has to be looking at our record and wondering what the hell is going on.

Do we have another ship with Ritter's apparent dismissal?

Tubbs needs to pull a rabbitt out of a hat in a major way.

Come On...

Postby BringBackThePonies03 » Thu Feb 16, 2006 9:56 pm

We still have a chance, he still lists us. We are in his final three who knows maybe he realizes that he won't be able to play right away at KU. If we can pull out some big wins, make a run in the CUSA tournament, have Bamba talk to him and B-HOP we could have a good shot. Don't give up I mean many people thought he was going to IU, maybe some freak thing happens at KU who knows, we have a shot!

What could BHop possibly say to him? Does Slim Shady have a brother that we could also give a basketball scholarship to in order to entice him to sign with us?

Has Baylor won a game this year? What is Drew telling these guys to get them interested in Baylor? Single sex dorms, no visitation, Waco, losing record in Big XII. I don't get it.

You could say that about any program that is signing good players. The question is, what is he doing to close the deal with some of these guys that we do not seem to do? Is it that they don't qualify academically and Baylor is taking anyone who can spell their name? Is it that Coach Tubbs doesn't have the charm of Drew? Is it the Big XII vs. CUSA? Is it a combination of factors? Head to Head, SMU should beat out Baylor everytime except for a kid coming from a fundamentalist Southern Baptist family.

What about Baylor's in progress practice facility? I don't know, but I am assuming their arena has been updated more recently than 50 years ago, and especially in bball don't knock the conference difference. Who would you rather test yourself against, KU, OU, UT, OSU, Tech or Memphis and a slew of nobodies?

Bottom line is we are in a horrible position no matter who our coach is, and there is nothing publicly being done to remedy that.
The donkey's name is Kiki.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

Baylor's practice facility has broken ground and is about 4 months along and should be completed by August.

Drew and his staff are all strong recruiters. One of his two 2006 signees, Demond Carter was just named to the McDonald's All-American team. The other '06 signee, Josh Lomers is ranked #43 nationally by Rivals. Drew has a verbal for the '07 class from guard LaceDarius Dunn who is ranked #87 nationally by Rivals.

If there is "something else going on" then those coaches are totally insane in light of the NCAA penalties they went through this season and the fact that they're on probation for 5 more years.

I've heard a couple of the assistants speak before and they are positive, energetic, dynamic guys that know how to recruit. Baylor is at the bottom right now, but they have facilities, conference affiliation, a private school education, and plenty of immediate playing time to offer right now and I think they're making the best of it.

I am sorry but Baylor will always be the doormat in the Big XII in football for sure but you only need a couple of players in basketball to get respectable. I doubt they are cheating, they are just working hard and obviously telling kids that they have a chance to play early. Having said that, we should outrecruit Baylor.

They must be awesome recruiters after the worst scandal in bball history that I know of. And the fact they couldn't play any non-conference games this year. I don't know if that is the case next year but if it is, that's nuts for a kid to want to do that. They have some nice recruits but I just don't get it when you have plenty of other options....doesn't make sense.
