Flirting with Waco the previous year hurt him on the recruiting trail, you have to keep that in mind as well. He needed to leave because the recruiting momentum was gone.

Not accurate as usual. The day Morris left SMU's class was ranked No. 48 on Rivals and about No. 56 on Scout-SMU finished at No. 86 on Scout. He was having one of the better recruiting classes in the Country for non-P5 schools and one of the best for SMU in 30 years.

That's assuming that none of the kids would have switched when new offers came there way, which they would have. Maybe not the couple that followed the pied piper to Arkansas, but the rest probably would have. Can't really blame a kid for going to UCLA or Texas to play ball given the opportunity, as they offer different strengths than we do.
I'm not saying the Baylor stuff hurt recruiting, no way to know that unless kids were just saying it. Were it my son I would have certainly told him to consider it. Just pointing out that our commitments in early December have been markedly better than our signing classes lately.

His biggest problem was losing his best QB commits. Big misses for the offensive 'guru' who got so much publicity for Watson at Clemson.
David Moore may come back to haunt.

Re: Week One lines: North Texas -1┬╜ vs. SMU
- the fact that there is uncertainty as to what the SMU lineup will be is a a small concern
- the fact that SMU is an underdog to NTSU is worrisome
- the fact that we are in year 33 of a rebuilding program is truly depressing
SMU is throwing good money after bad, and the SMU top brass doesn't know that the ship has been sinking for a very long time, and the hole that we had is now a big freaking crater. Abort. Abort.

There is a lot of truth in Juice Newton's song "Love's Been A Little Bit [deleted] Me" in being an SMU football fan for sure.

That song title must be pretty vulgar.

So, SMU is a -1.5 underdog to NTSU team in a game that will be played on September 1st. This is May 30th, right?
Re: Week One lines: North Texas -1┬╜ vs. SMU

A great football philosopher once said we do what we do. And here , we panic.
First, we did beat this team a year ago. We did it with a handfull of seniors and two NFL draft receivers. So alot of players are returning.
Second, NTSU dosn't have a clue what offense and defense we will run. Sure, they can guess, but they have never seen a HCSD SMU offense or defense in action. Oh, but what about the Spring Game? Spring games are for basics that everyione runs and showing stuff that will never be seen again. Its not like coaches don't do some counter intelligence by showing stufff the first opponent will have to prepare for.
Third, and most important, talent. Do we really beleive that NTSU has out recruited SMU (under previous HCCM) for 3 or 4 years running? Really?
Grad transfers. Not a guarantee but we have a better shot at them than NTSU in Denton ( over Dallas). And it appears we might have one or two that can seriously contribute in key areas.
Last, the line is moving cause, out of the early line betters of maybe 17, most die hard NTSU fans are thinking this is paradise and taking bets on NTSU. Things will change once camp starts and folks see who is actually in camp and how things are going.

Why? Just curious. They're competitive and one of the few home games that draw more than 2-3 sections on visitor side of stadium.

It's good to have local games. Good for business and good for rivalry.
