SMU/UConn game threadModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: SMU/UConn game threadI’m just hoping this was on the road, different climate jitters. Hopefully we feel comfortable at home and we shock the tigers. All eyes should be on Temple vs Houston with Temple looking for bowl eligibility.

I noticed the BB score the other night and today’s score are very similar. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: SMU/UConn game thread
At least we shut down UCONN's three pointers... stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: SMU/UConn game thread
Well actually I think they were 66% on 3 pointers but missed a big FT. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: SMU/UConn game threadThree takeaways:
1) Ben Hicks, in just a few weeks, went from not wanting to get his jersey dirty to keeping the ball on a huge play, trying to stiff arm, stretching and getting hit out of bounds, and stepping into every single throw. Huge transformation and deserves a lot of credit for it. 2) I think I saw deep pass rushes and diving into the RB. No discipline to contain. Basically a team that was preparing for Memphis all week. That is what I hope, at least. Ton of injuries out there, hopefully we can get some guys back on a short week. 3) Morris, Ali, Howerton, Thomas, Livingston might be something really, really special next season based on the last couple of games.
Re: SMU/UConn game threadSonny deserves a lot of credit for sticking with Hicks when the majority of internet geniuses would have thrown this season down the toilet bowl. I just don't think the coaching staff and the QB were on the same page in utilizing his talents. The play calling has been much better in the last 2 1/2 games spreading the field and getting positive yardage on short passing game on 1st and 2nd down rather than those ridiculous runs up the middle all day. Did you notice their LBs were completely out of position on several downs expecting an outside pass which resulted in better production in the running game. Another factor is getting Roberson healthy
I'm not so sure I'd be anointing the offensive line for greatness just yet though -UConn pretty much gives up that many yards OR MORE every game. The UCONN defense averages giving up an incredible 140 yards MORE yards per game than the SMU Defense in 2017. SMU got 594 yards total offense and 62 points BUT that is 33 yards less than UCONN usually surrenders "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: SMU/UConn game threadJasonB-
Agreed on Hicks and point 3...BUT: -Defense had a series of breakdowns on both coverage AND containment. Memphis has the horses that can and will exploit these issues. After a stellar performance against Houston, this was a massive step backwards. -The injuries are beginning to mount, and especially on defense that was not deep to begin with. The younger players that ARE getting in bodes well for the future, but man, there are sure some kids busted up. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: SMU/UConn game threadIt was just nice to have the fastest players on the field for a change. I cannot recall a time in recent history that was true against an FBS team.

Re: SMU/UConn game threadAnyone who wasn't upset with Hicks play earlier this year doesn't understand football.
Re: SMU/UConn game threadAnybody who thought that SMU had a better option knows even less

Re: SMU/UConn game thread
At the time of the Michigan game, it perfectly logical sense to put Brown in. He made us competitive and would have been a close game had he started. Hicks however has return to his old form (outside of Cincy OT) and has been the logical starter. Insert "this is fine" GIF
Re: SMU/UConn game threadBrown completed 62.4% of his passes with 7 TDs and one interception. 2 victories. Acquitted himself very well as all intelligent people would agree.
Re: SMU/UConn game threadSorry, no way we're in this position with Brown. We have a real shot at the division title. Thank the gods Dykes got Hicks' head straight. Now Kane has to get the defense straight for these last two.
