Remember the good timesModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Remember the good timesAside from Eddie Sutton at San Francisco, has that ever been done before?
Re: Remember the good timesI have no idea but I do think there are a couple of coaches who are available. Just sort of thinking 'outside of the box'.
Re: Remember the good times
Thad Matta
Re: Remember the good timesI would rather we make a push for an Oats or Musselman in March/April than just "settle" for someone like Matta now. Guys like him will still be there in the Spring as well.
Re: Remember the good timesLanding Matta would not be settling. If he is healthy he would be one of the dream candidates. The question is whether or not he is healthy. If he is then get him!
Re: Remember the good times
This. He checks all of the boxes: -Winning records and NCAA Tournament appearances at mid major private schools (Butler, Xavier) -Success at a bigger program (2 Final Fours at Ohio St.) and left due to a down year/health issues -A known name coach who can recruit the Midwest, where SMU has found all of its best players over the past few years Sterling Brown, Ben Moore - Illinois Nic Moore - Indiana Jimmy Whitt - Missouri Semi Ojeleye - Kansas He was honored by Ohio State recently and this article says his health is better and he is considering his next move in coaching. https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-sta ... ein-center He would be a home run hire for SMU.
Re: Remember the good timesplus he is available. however, not sure he would consider us- big step down from B1G. of course here would be a lot less pressure and a better environment.
Re: Remember the good times
Better environment in what context?
Re: Remember the good timesSeeing all the celebrities at the Houston Cougars basketball game is so depressing because we had that just 1.5 years ago. I’m happy for them but ver jealous!
Re: Remember the good times
The sad thing is Houston will do what it takes to sustain it. Shake It Off Moody
Re: Remember the good times
I wouldn’t say a lot less pressure to win. SMU is not East Carolina yet. Make no mistake if he were hired he would be coming here to win so soon as possible and recruit well. #HammerDown
Re: Remember the good timesAs Billie Jean King says, pressure is a privilege. If there were no pressure at SMU Jankovich would remain. There better be pressure on our coaches. We all want SMU to be perennial entrants in the NCAA tournament.
Re: Remember the good times
Winning a game would be nice too! Shake It Off Moody
Re: Remember the good timesIf you want to remember the good times just watch a Houston game at the Fertitta Center. Everything we used to be.
SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: Remember the good timesAnd will be again. This board is depressing
